The Boshin War (戊辰戦争) was a civil war in Japan that was fought from 1868 to 1869 between forces of the ruling Tokugawa shogunate in Edo and those seeking to return political power to the Imperial Court in Kyoto. The Japanese Rite of the Templar Order, having infiltrated Emperor Meiji's closest advisors, pushed the sovereign to launch a campaign against the Tokugawa shogun, Tokugawa Yoshinobu, himself supported by the Japanese Brotherhood of Assassins.[1] Foreign powers were also involved in the conflict with the British Empire and the Kingdom of Prussia backing the Imperial Court and the French Empire aiding the fragile Tokugawa shogunate.
Unfortunately for the Japanese Assassins, the Templar-backed Imperial forces would successfully defeat the Tokugawa shogunate and restore the sovereignty of the Emperor, putting an end to the age of the samurai.[2]
