Honor Among Thieves was a virtual representation of one of Fujibayashi Naoe's genetic memories, relived through the Animus EGO.[1]
Description[edit | edit source]
Naoe meets with Gennojo at the tax collector's house in Kyoto.
Dialogue[edit | edit source]
Naoe found Gennojo outside the house in northern Kyoto.
- Naoe: You cleaned up! But you have trouble written all over your face.
- Gennojo: Every year this shithead came to my village. And every year he took more rice than we could afford. Left us broke and hungry.
- Naoe: So what are you going to do about it?
- Gennojo: You are going to rob him, of course.
- Naoe: Me?

- Gennojo: You were so worried about those villagers back there. So prove it. Take back everything that was taken from them.
- Naoe: I'm not doing your dirty work alone.
- Gennojo: I won't be far. Now listen to me, everything you take from the house is yours, so long as the scroll goes to me.
- Naoe: I didn't think you could read.
- Gennojo: Shut up. That scroll is going to help bring justice to everyone's who suffered under those fat corrupt pigs.
Naoe then sneaked into the residence.
- Naoe: I wonder what's so important about that scroll.
In one of the huts, Naoe found a letter.
Tax Collector's Letter
- Honorable Tax Collector,
I am but a humble farmer. Under the watchful gaze of Lord Oda Nobunaga our village thrives, but the burden of tribute weighs on us like a thousand rice sacks.
This season's harvest was lean, but the samurai's demands grow ever more insistent. We pray and seek mercy from the kami, hoping the next season will not break our backs.
Our children shiver, their bellies are empty. The elderly huddle as their eyes go dim. And so I implore you, noble lord, for compassion and leniency on next season's collection.
With deepest reverence,
- Ikumi
- Naoe: I don't think this scroll is the one Gennojo had in mind.
Naoe searched another hut and found a scroll.
A Map of Yamashiro
- A map of the Yamashiro region with a mark indicating Nijo Palace
- Naoe: This looks interesting. I'll bring it to Gennojo.

Having found what she need, Naoe exited the residence and returned to Gennojo.
- Gennojo: Huh! Did you get the scroll?
- Naoe: Tell me what's on it first.
- Gennojo: A nude portrait of me, hand-painted by the tax collector's wife.
- Naoe: I'm not in the mood for your jokes.
- Gennojo: You're no fun.
- Naoe: I risked my neck for this.
Gennojo did not answered Naoe's question and stepped forward instead, taking the scroll away from her hands, prompting her to draw her Hidden Blade. Undaunted, Gennojo gave a wink and eventually gave an answer.
- Gennojo: This scroll contains the location of the rice storage house for all of Yamashiro. It's overflowing while the villagers go hungry.
- Naoe: You want me to help you steal the rice.
- Gennojo: I want you to help me give it back to the people it was stolen from.
- Naoe: There might be another way. Something bigger than stealing rice.
- Gennojo: Returning rice.

- Naoe: Whatever. I'm gathering allies in Settsu. We're fighting to end this corruption once and for all. You could join us.
- Gennojo: Tell you what, and only because I think you're cute, you help me see this through... and I'll think about joining you. I'm all in if you are all in.
- Naoe: Fine. I promise.
- Gennojo: Good. Meet me at the bottom of the Kiyomizu Temple stairs in Kyoto. These idiots won't know what hit them.
Outcome[edit | edit source]
Naoe helped Gennojo recovered a scroll from the tax collector's residence in Tokyo, inside detailing the location of the city's rice storage in Nijo Palace. She agreed to help Gennojo retrieve the rice in exchange for the thief joining her league.
