The Onryo Samurai was a virtual representation of one of Fujibayashi Naoe's genetic memories, relived through the Animus EGO.[1]

Naoe set out to recover the box that a masked samurai had stolen from her.
Dialogue[edit | edit source]
Naoe departed from Tomiko's house to make her way to Katano.
- Naoe: I'll get the box and everything will be as it was. Everything will be already.
After leaving Tomiko's estate, Naoe got her on her horse Kiri.
- Naoe: To Katano! Ride, Kiri!
Naoe then began riding to Katano, conversing with her horse along the way.
- Naoe: What is Father hiding, Kiri? What's in the box? If Father is willing to risk his life, I can do no less. I will not regret my mistakes, Kiri. I will fix them.
After riding for some time, Naoe came upon the sight on a fortress in the distance.
- Naoe: That must be Katano Castle.
Naoe got closer to the complex.
- Naoe: The box thief will be somewhere he feels safe. A well-guard place.
She got closer to a platform, looking up a tower that she would not be able to climb.
- Naoe: My grappling hook will get me up there.
Naoe used her grappling hook to climb up the tower. From there, she looked around the surroundings to locate the samurai who stole her box. While traversing across a rope, she found a guard stationed alone near a construction site.
- Naoe: I can throw a kunai one-handed.
Naoe used her kunai to eliminate guard, allowing her to get closer. After clearing another guard, she found a similar looking box near the body.
- Naoe: There it is.
As she opened the box, she realized it was not the one she was looking for, but collected the materials within.
- Naoe: That's not the box they stole from me. I need to keep looking.
Naoe headed deeper into the complex, getting close to the residences, where there were plenty of shadows to keep her hidden.
- Naoe: I can use the shadows and night to move unseen.
After using the night and shadows to clear more guards, Naoe entered one of the residences and found another box, although it was not the one she was looking for.
- Naoe: Still not the right box. The thief must have it with him.
Seeing that the box was likely with the carrier, Naoe headed deeper into the castle, overhearing a samurai talking.
- Onryo Samurai: Put those away. Quickly!
Naoe tried to get closer to the source of the voice.
- Onryo Samurai: Make room for their horses. Do not delay.
She located the voice, identifying it as belonging to Ido Yoshihiro, a masked samurai who heldthe box that he took from her in the Mihata Kofun.
- Naoe: He's there with the box! This is it. To get the box back, I have to kill him. I can do it with my grappling hook.
Naoe used her grappling hook to get closer, enabling her to kill the samurai with her Hidden Blade. She then took the box and quickly ran away, trying to avoid the nearby soldiers.
- Naoe: I have to leave.
- Ashigaru Swordsman 1: Assassins among us!
The alarm bell sounded as Naoe continued her way.
- Ashigaru Swordsman 2: Where are you going? Stop!
Naoe managed to escape the castle. As she quickly left the area, she was shot in the abdomen by a masked woman in a hat with a teppō.
- Naoe: Ah!
Naoe fell down in pain, with the box out of her reach. She clenched her wound, seeing the blood in her hand.
- Naoe: (groans)
- Unknown Man 1: She can't be kakushiba. She's just a child.
Naoe looked on as another masked samurai and the woman approached her.
- Unknown Woman: She's like a cat with a gold coin. She has no idea what she carries.
Naoe tried to crawl and reach the box she dropped.
- Naoe: (roars)
The samurai walked forward and stomped on Naoe's right leg, breaking it.
- Naoe: (screams)
Just as the woman reached for the box, the samurai stepped in.
- Unknown Man 1: What are you doing?
- Unknown Woman: It will be safe in Sakai.
- Unknown Man 1: It will be safer with me.
Just as they debated on the box's ownership, Naoe's father Nagato stepped in, using his katana to strike the woman's teppō and disrupt her shot before knocking her to the ground, and slicing off the samurai's ear while knocking off his helmet.

Nagato then stood in defense of his daughter.
- Nagato: That box... is not for you.
- Unknown Man 2: That is correct. It is for me.

An individual wearing a kitsune mask loosed an arrow, which Nagato easily deflected. Meanwhile, another samurai attacked with a kanabō, which Nagato also deflected, only for another arrow to strike his right shoulder before a red-armored third samurai stabbed him through the gut just before he could reach the horseman.

Fatally wounded, Nagato fell to the ground.
- Nagato: (winces)
Naoe, having witnessed the scene, screamed.
- Naoe: Father!

The red-armored samurai stepped forward and kicked Nagato, turning him over.
- Unknown Man 3: Your life's work is undone tonight.
Just as he drew his katana and prepared to decapitate Nagato, the earless samurai interrupted him.
- Unknown Man: No! Let them suffer! Let them die in pain!
- Unknown Man 2: Fine. We have what we came for.
The group then departed, leaving behind the two Igans.
- Naoe: (cries)
With the area clear, Naoe crawled forward to check on her father.
- Naoe: Father?
I'm coming!
(groans)
Father?!
(groans)
She reached Nagato's side.
- Naoe: (grunts)
She reached out to her father's hand, which was holding on to the fatal wound.
- Nagato: (breathes)
- Naoe: (cries)
- Nagato: (breathes)
Barely alive, Nagato called to his daughter.
- Nagato: Plum...
- Naoe: I failed you.
- Nagato: No... No. no! (pants) I kept too much from you.
Naoe shook her head.
- Naoe: (cries)
- Nagato: Now... it dies with me.
- Naoe: Stop talking like that!
- Nagato: (pants)
- Naoe: (cries)
- Nagato: There is hope... Follow the blade... hm. (breathe)
- Naoe: Father?! Father...
- Nagato: (breathes)
- Nagato: Remember the song. In the music... we are together. Always. (breathes)
Nagato succumbed to his wounds, passing away.
- Naoe: (cries) Father!
Devastated, Naoe wept and mourned his passing, placing her head on his body.
Outcome[edit | edit source]
A mysterious group known only as the Shinbakufu foiled Naoe and Nagato's efforts to recover the box. Nagato was killed while a heavily wounded Naoe was left behind to grieve her father's death and later die from her wounds.
