End of the Line was a virtual representation of one of Yasuke's genetic memories, relived through the Animus EGO.[1]
Description[edit | edit source]
Yasuke travelled to Takeda Castle to confront Nuno Caro.
Dialogue[edit | edit source]
Yasuke reached the foothill leading up to Takeda Castle.
- Yasuke: Takeda. A castle in the clouds. I have to make my way up.
Yasuke rode his horse up and reached an entrance.
- Yasuke: Nuno Caro. I am coming for you. There is nowhere you can run.
Yasuke fought his way through the castle and reached the main door to leading up to castle's tenshu courtyard.
- Yasuke: Caro. You are near. Can you feel it? It is the sins of your past, given form.
Yasuke opened the door and slowly walked up the stairs, overhearing Caro talking to his men.
- Nuno Caro: So. She helped him.
- Portuguese swordsman: Yes, senhor (sir). It was a bloodbath, and she was nowhere to be found.
- Caro: Didn't expect the giant to be the one that gave her a voice. Like a wagon following the donkey.
Yasuke reached the top of the stairs and walked forward to confront Caro and his men.
- Caro: Speak of the devil.
- Yasuke: You will answer for what you did.
- Nuno Caro: You speak as if we know each other personally.
- Yasuke: We do.
Yasuke had a flashback to his past when he and his mother were slaves aboard Caro's ship. They were in the captain's cabin and she had just put down a book when a gust of wind blew out the candles and caused several documents to fly to the floor.
- Yasuke's mother: (breathes)
Together, they worked to retrieve the documents.
- Yasuke's mother: (grunts)
- Yasuke: It's all right, mama.
Just as they finished collecting the papers marked with the Templar insignia, Caro's enforcer Duarte de Melo opened the door and caught sight of them. The Templar entered and snatched away the document from the mother.
- Duarte de Melo: (grunts)
Immediately suspicious of their actions, de Melo called for Caro.
- Duarte: Senhor (Sir) Caro.
Caro entered with his guards, with Caro showing him the Templar document in his hand.
- Duarte:(laughs)
Caro immediately signaled for his men to take Yasuke and his mother away. The two were taken out to the deck, where their fellow slaves were watching, and made to kneel. De Melo punched Yasuke down when he struggled. At that moment, Caro questioned his mother.
- Nuno Caro: Who sent you?
Yasuke's mother was too scared to answer, causing Yasuke to speak in her stead.
- Yasuke: No-no one, senhor (sir) Caro. No one.
- Yasuke's mother: (cries)
Receiving no answer from her, Caro drew his pistol and pointed at her.
- Yasuke: Please! W-we saw nothing! We saw nothing!
Ignoring his pleas, Caro executed his mother by shooting her point blank in the chest.
- Yasuke: (screams) Mother! (cries) Mama...
- Caro: Is of your own choosing.
As Caro prepared to execute Yasuke as well, an Assassin appeared from the quarterdeck and took down two of the guards.
- Portuguese soldier: Intruder!
With Caro signaling his men to attack, distracted by the Assassin eliminating more soldiers, Yasuke crawled over to his mother's body.
- Yasuke: Mama...
Yasuke saw the Assassin kill down more guards before being overwhelmed. De Melo fatally stabbed him in the stomach, and clutching his wound, the Assassin called for Yasuke to run and escape.
- Assassin: Go!
Heeding his words, Yasuke took his mother's necklace and jumped off the ship, but was wounded when Caro shot him from behind. Yasuke's flashback ended, and in that time, Caro recognized Yasuke's identity.
- Caro: Diogo?
- Yasuke: Yasuke.
- Nuno Caro: It was necessary. I had to set an example to the others. Your mother's death taught everyone how I felt about insubordination. Everyone except you, it seems.
- Yasuke: It is uncommon for a corpse to talk this much.
- Caro: So, what do you want, Diogo? Revenge? It will get you nothing, I'm afraid. We have the regalia already.
- Yasuke: Not for long. We will make sure of it.
- Caro: "We?" Diogo. I was sent here because no one else in my organization cared enough. And look what I accomplished. Look around you, Diogo. Everything you see here is mine. This land, its resources, its people. You should understand that better than anyone.
- Yasuke: Put a hundred, a thousand men between us, Caro... there is no difference. You are welcome to watch them all die.
Caro signaled his men to take point while he heads to the tenshu's entrance.
- Caro: My friends. The bounty for escaped slaves will be honored today. But only dead.
- Yasuke: Run. It will serve you no use.
- Caro: Kill him so we can focus on what really matters!
Yasuke drew his swords to defend himself against Caro's men.
- Caro: Kill him. Remind him of his place.
Yasuke swiftly killed four guards and entered the tenshu, climbing the first steps of stairs.
- Caro: There he is. Men, you will not fail me like the others. Do you hear me, Diogo? You cannot win.
On the first level, Yasuke found more of Caro's men.
- Yasuke: I have hunted greater warriors than you.
- Caro: (screams)
- Yasuke: You cannot hide from me, Caro.
Yasuke reached a walkway guarded by two more guards.
- Caro: Diogo. You need to let it go, dear boy.
Yasuke promptly eliminated them.
- Caro: Hah! Over here, Diogo.
Yasuke proceeded to the upper level but was unable to move forward. He got out of the window to a rooftop and move across to another tower. Inside, he dispatched of one more guard and confronted Caro atop the tower.
- Caro: Stay away, Diogo! Let us settle this like civilized men.
- Yasuke: You know nothing of civility.
Caro drew his sword and gun and fought Yasuke.
- Yasuke: You talk too much.
- Caro: Killing me won't bring your mother back, Diogo. Think!
Yasuke repeatedly overpowered Caro and threw him to the floor, eventually defeating him.
- Caro: No more. You win, Diogo.
Yasuke disarmed Caro and pushed him into a fence, holding him by the neck.
- Caro: (gasps) (pants) You win. Please, Diogo.
The samurai promptly threw Caro down the tower. The Templar hit a roof before landing on the ground on his back, fatally wounding him.
- Caro: (screams)
Seeing that Caro survived the fall, Yasuke descended the tenshu.
- Caro: (breathes)
Caro tried to crawl to safety but Yasuke overtook him even at a walking pace.
- Yasuke: After you killed my mother, I kept my desire for vengeance in my heart. In the same place I once held thoughts of her. It kept me alive. Nourished me. To get to you today.
- Caro: Then... it's yours. Vengeance. Not that it will bring her back.
- Yasuke: It is no longer mere vengeance I want.
- Caro: Then what is it? What is this all about?
- Yasuke: A declaration of war. Against the Templar Order.
- Caro: You are serious? My God, you're serious. What makes you think you can win?
- Yasuke: Because we are united in the defense of our home. This country... so shaken with strife. The people are victims to it. But together, they will be unstoppable. We will be unstoppable. We live by this code. And it is because of my league that I know what I must do.
- Caro: And what does killing me prove?
- Yasuke: That no one is untouchable. That even you are just one blade of grass in a withering field. And when you die, no one will remember you. Your death will only ever be a message to your compatriots. One that says you should fear us.
- Caro: We will hunt you down. My group will send everything at you.
- Yasuke: After they find what is left of you, they may think twice. You may start praying now.
- Caro: This isn't over. It's the beginning, in fact. The beginning of your end.
Caro tried to reach for his pistol.
- Yasuke: It is done...
- Caro: Declaring war on the Templars. A fool's errand. Goodbye, Diogo.
Caro tried to shoot Yasuke but his wounds greatly slowed him down, allowing Yasuke to slash him across the neck and kill him.
- Caro: (gurgles)
- Yasuke: My name...
Yasuke sheathed his sword.
- Yasuke: ... is Yasuke.
Yasuke then took out his mother's necklace, reflecting on the fact he had avenged his death before walking away.
Outcome[edit | edit source]
Yasuke put an end to Caro's life, fulfiling his vengeance against the Templar for killing his mother.
