The Lost Envoys was a virtual representation of one of Fujibayashi Naoe and Yasuke's genetic memories, relived through the Animus EGO.[1]
Description
Yasuke and Naoe travelled to locate and rescue a group of kidnapped envoys held somewhere in Yamato's forests.
Dialogue
- Yasuke: Lord Junkei sent the missing peace envoys to this town.
He began his investigation by asking civilians near the Iron Ore Storage if they had seen the envoys recently.
- Yasuke: Excuse me. I am looking for a group of Lord Jumkei's envoys.
- Man: I saw them. Wandering the street like lost puppies. Then gone.
- Yasuke: Excuse me. Have you seen Lord Junkei's envoys?
- Man: Those Tsutsui dogs should've left by now.
- Yasuke: Have you seen the missing peace envoys?
- Man: I saw them pass through here. Didn't stay for long.
- Yasuke: Excuse me. Have you seen any peace envoys here?
- Woman: I... the Akiyama soldiers were looking for them.
Yasuke found Kojiro.
- Yasuke: You really get around.
- Kojiro: Can't I enjoy my drink in peace?
- Yasuke: You have no drink.
- Kojiro: Where did it go? Who stole it?
- Yasuke: The missing envoys. Any more clever ideas?
- Kojiro: See this big, ugly oaf? He boasted of seizing the envoys. I swear it.
He indicated a drunken soldier.
- Akiyama Soldier: What're you looking at, filthy outlander?
- Kojiro: That is the voice of a guilty man.
- Yasuke: A drunk one, yes. But we cannot trust that.
- Akiyama Soldier: What'd you say?
- Kojiro: Guilty. Most definitely.
- Yasuke: Enough blabbering. Are you trying to start—
- Akiyama Soldier: Blabbering?!
- Yasuke: I was not talking to you.
- Akiyama Soldier: Outside. Now! I'm shutting you up for good!
- Yasuke: Great.
Yasuke followed the soldier outside.
- Akiyama Soldier: Idiot! You'll regret this!
The soldier attacked Yasuke but was swiftly defeated.
- Akiyama Soldier: (groans)
Akiyama Ayako entered.
- Ayako: Enough! Leave. All of you. Except you two. Stay where you are. I am Lady Ayako. Of the Akiyama clan.
- Yasuke: I am Yasuke. I seek Lord Junkei's peace envoys. Among other things.
- Ayako: The Tsutsui clan sent you?
- Yasuke: I sent myself. Peace must have its chance.
- Ayako: My clan has many traitors. Perhaps they work for the Tsutsui clan, perhaps for someone else. Like this brute. By shadowing him, I hoped to find the truth. But you had other plans.
- Yasuke: Then I will make amends.
He interrogated the defeated soldier.
- Yasuke: The peace envoys. Where are they?
- Akiyama Soldier: (groans) We took them to the iron-gathering site.
- Yasuke: On whose orders?
- Akiyama Soldier: A great warrior. Masked. Promised me gold.
- Yasuke: Man or woman?
- Akiyama Soldier: If it was a woman, she was strong. Maybe it was her.
Yasuke interrogated Ayako.
- Ayako: Find the envoys before it is too late. Or Yamato faces war.
- Yasuke: You and I are not finished, Lady Ayako.
- Ayako: Don't threaten me, giant. When you are done, meet me near Kasugataisha Shrine. There we will talk, and shed blood if necessary.
Yasuke spoke to the envoy.
- Yasuke: You are safe now. Lord Junkei sent me. Are you all right—
- Tsutsui Envoy: They took the invitation to Uda Matsuyama Castle. Without it, no peace talks. I don't have the strength... If you do, approach from the south. The walls have been weakened by the war.
- Yasuke: That is good to know.
- Tsutsui Envoy: Without the invitation, Lady Ayako has no right to speak for her clan.
- Yasuke: Clam down. I will deliver it to her.
- Tsutsui Envoy: It's madness. Lord Junkei wants to know the Akiyama clan's strength. In case the talks fail. Now the Akiyama want to know the same of the Tsutsui!
- Yasuke: They talk of peace and dream of war. I will find the invitation.
Yasuke made his way to the castle the envoy had mentioned.
- Yasuke: The castle will be well defended. I should approach from the south, like the envoy said. I should look for the daimyo's house. Perhaps the invitation is there.
- Samurai Spearman 1: Why must we guard this piece of paper?
- Samurai Spearman 2: Don't question orders. And don't think of sharing those orders with Lady Ayako.
- Yasuke: This is the invitation to the peace talks.
Having retrieved the invitation, Yasuke returned to speak with Akayo again.
- Yasuke: Lady Akayo.
- Ayako: Come, follow me.
- Ayako: The envoys. They still breathe?
- Yasuke: One does. You may be right about the traitors in your clan.
- Ayako: Now you trust me?
- Yasuke: All I said was that you cannot trust those under your command.
- Ayako: Tell me, Yasuke... have you seen anyone dressed in my clan's colors, but armed with a teppo.
- Yasuke: Why do you ask?
- Ayako: A true Akiyama warrior relies solely on steel. That is our way. No teppo. Ever. Even the bow is frowned upon.
- Yasuke: I can admire your tradition. But it may not be realistic.
- Ayako: It sounds like you call my clan fools. Diplomatically, of course.
- Yasuke: Not at all. It is just a rapidly-changing world.
- Ayako: Your coming to Yamato. It was never about the peace envoys, was it?
- Yasuke: Peace, yes. But there is a dark presence in Yamato. I intend to stamp it out.
- Ayako: You think I am that shadow?
- Yasuke: Of course not, Lady Ayako.
- Ayako: If anyone is a dark shadow, it is the warmonger Tsutsui Junkei.
- Yasuke: He might say the same of you. When the truth comes, I will act on it. Until then, take the intervention to the negotiations. Now you have no excuse not to attend.
- Ayako: I would not miss it for anything.
Outcome
After meeting Ayako, Yasuke and Naoe defeated and interrogated an Akiyama soldier for the peace envoys' locations. Infiltrating the Iron Ore Storage, they rescued a Tsutsui envoy, who told them that the invitation was at Uda Matsuyama Castle. They infiltrated the castle and recovered the invitation.
