Wilhelm Schmidt (1907 – 1942) was a German SS Obersturmführer and a member of the German Templars who was based in German-occupied France during World War II.
Biography[edit | edit source]
By 1942, Schmidt was a new recruit to the Templar Order and organized a private party at the Folies Bergère in Paris, attended by guests that included Wehrmacht soldiers, officers, and local celebrities. Within the theater, Schmidt used an area as his office where he kept important and sensitive documents, including details on his superior, Sturmbannführer Heinz Müller. He also installed an explosive booby trap in the drawer in the event someone would attempt to steal the documents.[1]
Sure enough, the party was infiltrated by two Assassins, the British Army Major Gallagher and "The Ambassador", who managed to retrieve the Templar intel with the help of the French dancer Josephine Baker and the saboteur Nancy Wake.[1]
