I wanted to ask you something. Which is... what's your name? This article title is conjecture. Although the article subject is canon, no official name for it has been given. |
The Assault on Tamworth Fortress was an assault undertaken by the Sons of Ragnar within the Great Heathen Army on the Mercian stronghold of Tamworth Fortress in Ledecestrescire, England. The Sons of Ragnar, led by Ivarr and Ubba Ragnarsson, were aided in the assault by the Raven Clan jarl Sigurd Styrbjornsson and his step-sister Eivor Varinsdottir, as well as Ceolbert, the son of thegn Ceolwulf, who aided the Vikings against the King of Mercia, Burgred.[1]
Burgred had previously paid off the Ragnarssons to prevent a Viking siege of Tamworth, but the Vikings returned to seize the throne of Mercia, intending to install Ceolwulf as their puppet king. After negotiations between the Vikings and Burgred, who was accompanied by his thegn Leofrith, failed, the Vikings decided to seize the throne by force and besieged the fortress. They were ultimately successful in capturing the stronghold, but Burgred and Leofrith fled during the attack.[1]
Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]
