Charlotte Gouze speaking with Arno

Charlotte Gouze (fl. 1790's) was a member of the French Brotherhood of Assassins and the manager of the Café Théâtre, an intelligence-gathering network for the Brotherhood in Paris. During the end of the 18th century, the café fell into near-ruin. She had a relationship with the café's fencing master and fellow Assassin, Augustin Grisier.

Biography[edit | edit source]

In January 1791, Charlotte met the Assassin apprentice Arno Dorian when he visited the café and gave him the stewardship of the building.[1] During the following years, Arno renovated the café while Charlotte gave him missions though the city.[2]

During the French Revolution, the royalist gang Les Actes des Apôtres began committing crimes in Paris, like burning religious manuscripts. Charlotte sent Arno to deal with them.[3] Later, she recruited Colette, an informant who spied on Les Actes members, and the dressmaker Rose Bertin to both make costumes for the café's actors, but the two were targeted by Les Actes. As before, she sent Arno to save them.[4][5] When Charlotte tried to get the stolen Sancy diamond from the gang via an agent, she tasked Arno with supervising the operation,[6] ultimately wanting Arno to kill Les Actes' leader Renard.[7]
