- Naoe: Surprised to see a castle guard can afford this.
She found the residence stormed and surrounded by a group of bandits. Entering the residence through a broken wall, Naoe overheard an outlaw calling out for Tokubei.
- Outlaw Thug: Tokubei! Come on out, you cheating shit-drip!
As Naoe headed to the backyard, she overheard Tokubei's wife Suzu being questioned for her husband's whereabouts.
- Suzu: You are asking me where my husband has gone? I do not know! I wish I did. Whatever you are planning to do to him, I will do worse! By tenfold!
After clearing the area of the outlaws, Naoe spoke to Suzu.
- Suzu: Are you a friend of Tokubei? What has that dolt gotten himself into this time?
- Naoe: I'm not sure. Can you tell me where to find him?
- Suzu: He has likely started gambling again, based on how many people he owes money to. Again. But then... I found this in his room. What is a watch commander doing with a shrine fortune? I don't think I've ever seen him pray.
Suzu handed the fortune to Naoe.
- Naoe: Any idea where I can find him?
- Suzu: I bet he's at that gambling den in town. If you see him, tell him his dear wife can't wait to break his tailbone with her foot!
The two women concluded their conversation.
- Naoe: A fortune, but the characters don't make sense. A secret message? Why would Tokubei go to the trouble of hiding this?
Naoe left Suzu alone in her home.
- Suzu: You are leaving? Good. When you find Tokubei, give him a thrashing for me.
As she left the residence, she pondered over the possibly of Tokubei being influenced.
- Naoe: Someone is holding influence over Tokubei. Where has he gone?
Naoe then went to locate the gambling den in the east of the city.
- Naoe: The gambling den? It's worth a shot.
Tokubei has yet to resurface.
After some exploration, she came across a warehouse that seemed to be tightly guarded.
- Naoe: I think this is it. A gambling den. Better take care of those guards going in.
After clearing the warehouse of the guards, Naoe went down the stairs leading to an underground room where she found a nearly naked Tokubei gambling.
- Naoe: Tokubei? You're... quite naked.
- Tokubei: It's you! From the rengakai! Who sent you here? What do you want with me?
- Naoe: Calm down. I just want to ask you some questions.
- Tokubei: Questions, you say? Fine, fine. Let's go outside and talk about it.
Tokubei led Naoe upstairs out of the underground room.
- Tokubei: Just this way. Don't worry, I'm not threat to you.
Just as they reached the top, Tokubei took his chance to run away from Naoe.
- Tokubei: Which is why you should leave me alone!
- Naoe: Hey! Damn it.
Naoe pursued after the watch commander.
- Tokubei: Give up! You'll never catch me.
Come on! Deal me in. I still have my life, no matter how little it's worth now.
Naoe chased Tokubei across the city and eventually catch up with him, who was exhausted from all the running.
- Tokubei: I... no more. I can't run anymore. What do you want from me?
- Naoe: I told you. Just questions. What happened at the rengakai?
- Tokubei: After you showed up, everything went to shit! All that killing! I had to run, but I'm innocent, do you hear me? Innocent!
- Naoe: I went to your house and your wife was being threatened by thugs. Because of you.
- Tokubei: Oh no! Oh, shit. No! Is she okay? Is my wife okay?
- Naoe: Oh, she's mad. But it's a rage born out of love, I think.
- Tokubei: This is all my fault. She will never forgive me.
- Naoe: Tell me what you know about the attack at the rengakai.
- Tokubei: Men from Bizen offered money to stay at Himeji Castle.
- Naoe: Who ordered this attack?
- Tokubei: Some samurai from Chugoku. On behalf of his master. I followed them and they've infiltrated the castle. And once they received that weird code, all hell broke loose. I didn't think they would kidnap the son of a daimyo!
Naoe took out the fortune she had received from Suzu earlier and showed it to Tokubei.
- Naoe: The strange fortune.
- Tokubei: Keep it, burnt it, I don't care. It's a bad omen, just like me. Especially to my wife.
- Naoe: You still have a chance to make this right. Tell me about the positions of the guests from Bizen.
- Tokubei: Ah, I wrote it all down. To cover my ass in case things got bad.
Tokubei handed a note to Naoe.
- Naoe: Go back to Himeji Castle. My ally Yasyke and I might need a friendly face inside.
- Tokubei: Yes, a good idea. Who, me?
- Naoe: Your wife married a courageous man, did she not? You are resourceful. Smart enough to dodge debt-colecting thugs and murderous samurai.
