Peste was the nickname of a doctor and ally to the Assassin Brotherhood during the Italian Renaissance.[1]
Behind the scenes
The character's name is the Italian word for "plague",[2] while his quote is a slight modification of a line in the 2009 video game Assassin's Creed II said by the Italian polymath Leonardo da Vinci to Ezio Auditore in 1478.[3]
