The Imjin War was a pair of Japanese invasions of Korea in 1592 and 1597 which were successively repelled with the help of the Ming.[1] The invasions fostered enmity between the two countries' people that endured into the 18th century, with the British Assassin Edward Kenway comparing it to the historic rivalry between the French and the English. The Joseon engineer Yun Pyeong-Gyu's ancestors were killed by the invaders, leading to his immediate dislike of and distrust towards Shimazu Saito for being a samurai.[2]
