The Monk's Wake was a virtual representation of one of Fujibayashi Naoe's genetic memories, relived through the Animus EGO.[1]
Description[edit | edit source]
Naoe sets herself to help secure the cabin in the mountains for her auntie Matsu.
Dialogue[edit | edit source]
Naoe left Matsu and the Hinotani Shrine and headed south to the mountain. After a short climb, Naoe found the cabin that Matsu mentioned.
- Naoe: That must be Matsu's cabin.
As she approached closer, she found a strange looking man along with an elderly man on the ground pleading for his life along with a young girl. Naoe attacked and killed the strange man.
- Naoe: I should check on the old man.
- Murasaki: (groans) It hurts!
Naoe spoke to the old man.
- Naoe: Are you both all right?
- Yoshiharu: (breathes) I don't have as much fight in me as I once had. I'm Yoshiharu. My granddaughter, Murasaki, seems to be injured.
- Naoe: Where is she hurt?
- Yoshiharu: "Everywhere," she says. She won't let me check. We need to keep moving. There might be more of those "Yamabushi" out there.
- Naoe: Yamabushi are hermits. What are they doing hurting people?
- Yoshiharu: My brother in Yamato is one of their kind. I know these frauds steal their peaceful name and robes.
- Naoe: Don't move. I'll bring someone who can help your granddaughter.
Yoshiharu remained at the house with his granddaughter.
- Naoe: This area's safe now. I should return to Matsu.
- Murasaki: (groans) Everything hurts! My head, my belly... I think my leg is bleeding!
Naoe went back down the mountain and returned to Matsu at the shrine.
- Naoe: I found your cabin!
- Matsu: Good! What about the monks?
- Naoe: Imposters of the Yamabushi. One attacked two travelers. A little girl is hurt.
- Matsu: Ah! Then you'll need to collect maggots.
- Naoe: Excuse me?
- Matsu: Maggots, my dear child! Your father didn't teach you they eat bad flesh from open wounds? Go find some dead things, near the water. I will gather herbs and honey and meet you there.
- Naoe: Are you sure, Auntie? I could carry -
- Matsu: Ah, ah, ah! As long as this heart beats, I will travel on my own two feet. Go!

Naoe eliminated Yamabushi imposters at the cabin, saving an elderly man and his granddaughter. She was then ask by Matsu to collect maggots that will be useful in treating the girl's injuries.
