Battle of the Bests was a virtual representation of one of Fujibayashi Naoe and Yasuke's genetic memories, relived through the Animus EGO.[1]

Naoe and Yasuke gave Kinu and Kane a chance to determine their place within the Kakushiba ikki.
Dialogue[edit | edit source]
Naoe and Yasuke returned to the door with the mysterious glyphs the next day. They overheard Kinu and Kane enthusiastically talking about their test.
- Kane: You better be ready today!
- Kinu: I saw the moves play out in my head all night long. Like a piece of beautiful theatre. A performance of strength and style!
- Kane: You wouldn't know style if it bit you on the ass.
- Kinu: So that's why it's still sore!
Kane and Kinu gathered at the training ground.
- Kane: This is it, Kinu. You wanna stop sleeping on the rocks? Get away from the macaques? That happens today. If... you don't mess it up.
- Kinu: (gulps)
- Kane: To perform in front of you... it is an honor.
The two "treasure hunters" bowed to Yasuke.
- Yasuke: You flatter me, Kane.
- Kane: Told you I'd be your biggest fan, sir.
- Kane: Allow me and Kinu to show you what we will bring to your illustrious team.
- Yasuke: Show us what you've prepared.
Naoe and Yasuke changed into their training attire and watched as Kane and Kinu get ready from afar. Both of them took a glimpse at one another as the two trainees did some stretching exercises. They then watched the two circle around one another, causing Yasuke to whisper to Naoe.
- Yasuke: Do not say "I told you so."
Kane and Kinu began trading punches, with Kinu lending a punch on the latter, causing him to bleed from his nose. Kane responded with a punch of his own as well.
- Naoe: I'm thinking it.
Kane then practiced Naoe's lesson by using a rope to choke Kinu to the ground, and imagined himself standing tall to an imaginary crowd.
- Yasuke: They have charisma?
As Kane continued laughing, Kinu got up behind him.
- Naoe: I thought they were bad, but turns out they're just stupid. And stupidity is not a crime.
Kinu got revenge by kicking Kane in his butt from behind as Naoe and Yasuke continued watching.
- Yasuke: But it should be
- Naoe: We know Tomiko could use a hand. She hates mucking the horse stalls.
- Yasuke: They could handle that.
Kane and Kinu exchanged kicks that knocked them to the ground.
- Naoe: Maybe.
- Yasuke: All right, you two. Demonstration over.
The two trainees stopped and return to Naoe and Yasuke.
- Kinu: Did you see us? Did you see?
- Kane: I've never felt more alive, sir.
Naoe and Yasuke looked at one another before the latter gave the announcement.
- Yasuke: We have talked it over, and there is very important work you can do for us. Welcome to the team.
- Kinu: Yatta (Hurrah)!
- Kane: We did it! We're joining the team of the greatest fighter in the world... Yasuke!
- Kinu: Don't you mean Naoe?
Naoe and Yasuke watched the new recruits bicker over their abilities.
- Kane: No, Yasuke. He's a mountain. No one can budge him!
- Kinu: Naoe is a shooting star! S fast, she'll slice you before you see her!
- Naoe: Hey, hey! Enough!
- Kinu: I must defend your honor!
- Kane: You could take her. Couldn't you, legend?
- Yasuke: We are equally matched. Although...
- Naoe: What?
- Yasuke: I did best you that one time.
- Naoe: When I came for Oda Nobunaga?
- Yasuke: Yes, and I stopped you. I did grab your blade hand.
- Naoe: You weren't my target. And if you remember, I walked away. It was never settled.
- Kane: Time to settle it then. With a duel! Crush her like a beetle, sir.
- Kinu: Show him who's better, miss Naoe!
- Naoe: A duel, huh?
- Yasuke: One harmless match.
- Kane and Kinu: Duel! Duel! Duel! Duel! Duel! Duel!
- Naoe: All right, legendary samurai. Let's duel.
The fight began with both Naoe and Yasuke wielding a bokken. Naoe made use of her small size and agility to try and gain a upper hand on Yasuke.
- Yasuke: Show me what you can do, famous shadow of Iga.
- Yasuke: Oh! So you use my own lessons against me?
- Naoe: You said it yourself! A strong kick does the job.
The two got into their first stalemate, pushing against each other's bokken.
- Naoe: You're not bad at this fighting thing.
- Yasuke: Lord Nobunaga did not keep me around just to play Go.
The two let go to give each other some space.
- Naoe: That explains why Junjiro always wins your games.
- Yasuke: I often let the disadvantaged win. You may see that yourself today!
The two began their second clash.
- Yasuke: (yawns)
- Naoe: Don't start.
- Yasuke: Then wake me up!
This time, Yasuke got the upper hand and flipped Naoe to the ground.
- Naoe: (grunts)
- Yasuke: Are you all right down there?
As Yasuke tried to land a blow, Naoe dodged and got up to position.
- Naoe: Don't worry about me. Worry about your bruised ass tomorrow.
Naoe and Yasuke began their third clash, with Yasuke continuing to have difficulty with Naoe's agility.
- Yasuke: Hold still!
- Naoe: Move faster, old man!
- Yasuke: Now you have done it.
Naoe tried a new move on Yasuke, who managed to avoid it.
- Naoe: Watch this! (grunts)
- Yasuke: (laughs) That is the lesson I want to learn next!
- Naoe: You've got it.
The two soon got to their final stalemate.
- Naoe: I'm pretty tough, huh?
- Yasuke: Eh.
- 'Naoe: I am!
Meanwhile, Kane and Kinu watched from afar.
- Kane: They're pretty close, Kinu. Jealous?
Kinu began to romanticize Naoe and Yasuke's heads getting close to another, as if they were going to kiss. Kinu then shouted out.
- Kinu: No! Please! Don't kiss her!
- Yasuke: What?!
- Naoe: Ugh!
The two let go of their bokken.
- Naoe: You weren't...
Yasuke got flustered.
- Yasuke: What? No! Never.
The samurai laughed it off.
- Yasuke: And I know I could never steal you away from Kinu.
Kinu's mouth opened wide.
- Naoe: Say that again and we'll have to duel for real.
As the fight concluded, the two were joined by the new recruits.
- Kane: Woah! What a duel!
Kane spoke to Yasuke.
- Kane: You lost with such grace, great samurai! That's how you do it. I want to be just like you.
- Yasuke: You honor me, Kane. Sort of.
- Kane: Yasuke, the legendary samurai of legend! The winner! To possess one grain of sand on the beach of your muscles.
- Yasuke: That is... quite the image. Thank you, Kane.
- Kane: If only there was a way to show my reverence. My devotion. I know! Your name. I will take your name.
- Yasuke: Oh. You will? So you would become...
- Yasukane: Yasukane! From this moment on!
Yasuke went silent upon hearing Kane's declaration.
- Naoe: Yasukane. What a tribute!
Meanwhile, Kinu took out what seemed to be a weed to give to Naoe.
- Kinu: For you.
Naoe also went silent upon seeing Kinu's act.
- Kinu: Your victory has proven you stronger than any storm, and more beautiful than any blossom.
- Kinu: Even in loss, I still think you are the strongest. And most lovely.
- Naoe: I think these are weeds, but... Thank you, Kinu. You're sweet.
Kinu smiled hearing Naoe's compliment.
- Yasukane: So, great and powerful leaders. Where is this hideout of yours.
- Kinu: I can't believe we get to fight for the Kakushiba ikki.
- Yasuke: You will be waging a great war for our hideout... The great war against... horse manure!
- Yasukane: Manure?
A moment of silence filled the air.
- Yasukane: There's mon in that!
- Kinu: Yatta (Hurrah)!
The two new recruits celebrated their new role with the group.
- Naoe: They better not make me live to regret this. But the Hideout will be livelier. Maybe I'll go there and ask Yasuke for another duel.
- Yasuke: Our allies are going to have some fun with them in the Hideout. Speaking of the Hideout, I wonder if Naoe would be interested in another duel?

Naoe and Yasuke recruited Kinu and Yatta in the Kakushiba ikki, working as stable hands. The two also had a friendly duel with one another.
