Blurb[edit | edit source]
Owen and his friends have lost. They managed to do something incredible, but were defeated nonetheless. When they located the first piece of an ancient and powerful relic long considered a legend-the Trident of Eden-it seemed little could stop them. This piece was sought by the Brotherhood of Assassins and the Templar Order, but before either organization could take the piece, it was stolen by an unknown third party. The relationship between the teens fractured-Owen and his friend Javier taking sides with the Assassins, the others with the Templars.
Now there are still two pieces of the Trident of Eden to find, and both are determined not to repeat their mistakes. The next piece is said to have been buried with the Mongol warlord Mongke Khan, whose tomb has never been found. Teens on either side of the conflict will have to go into simulations in war-torn Mongolian China in a race against time to discover the next piece, and ensure their safety before their enemies find it first.[1]
Summary[edit | edit source]
Chapter One[edit | edit source]
Natalya is in a simulation as Bayan, a Buryat warrior, in Mongolian China, 1259, as he escapes from Song artillerymen and their thunderclap cannons. As he finds cover, he fights along the Khan army. Meanwhile, Natalya still tries to find her footing as a Mongolian warrior. Bayan soon finds himself near a young warrior, whom he guides. The young Tangghut conscript is new to warfare and not of the Mongolian descent. His actions would determine his life either at the hands of the Khan or the enemy. The young warrior states his name is Chen Lun and Bayan admits that they will stop at nothing and kill every man, woman, and child of the Song. Looking over the strength of his warriors, Bayan recalls how they fell Alamut, home to the Assassins and how Song will be next despite the location's advantage.
However, Bayan notes of the disease circling his troops and fellow generals, especially when he joins a meeting of nine other commanders of the Mingghan unit. General Kӧke reveals that General Wang Dechen will lead an assault on Hu Guo Gate and asks every commander to sent their own men of good health to join. More or less, every commander sends how many they could. They all plan to attack within a half-hour.
However, Natalya wants to pause the simulation due to her being Bayan for the last four battles and she is exhausted. Despite Dr. Victoria Bibeau's concerns, her plea is accepted. Before long, Natalya waits in the Memory Corridor to be let out of these tense memories. When coming out, Natalya felt uneasy all around her body. After Victoria helps her out of the Animus, Natalya heads for the bucket and throws up all she can. After discussing her time in the Animus, Natalya is allowed to rest before the debrief. Victoria gives her a blanket while Natalya falls asleep.
Natalya wakes up and feels as though someone is watching her. However, this happens to be one of the side effects of the Animus. Recalling how the Animus felt before, she knows how she compares with her other friends, in terms of being the one with least hours in the Animus. Victoria enters the Animus room and asks about her well-being before heading up for the debrief. Natalya agrees and they leave the room for a conference room in another of the Aerie's buildings. Inside, Isaiah welcomes her. Discussing the Mongol Khans' tactics, they understand how it may been offputting for Natalya. Isaiah offers her to call her parents but Natalya refuses as to not stress them out. They discuss the use of the Parietal Suppression and how it makes one simulate quicker but disorients the subject later.
Isaiah soon asks her about the dagger, but Natalya states that she has not seen it yet. Both impatient, Isaiah tells Natalya that without Monroe's research, they have to take it one day at a time. Natalya reminds them it is one battle and how the current memory shows him and his army being ill. Isaiah asks if she can go in the Animus tonight but Natalya rejects going back into the Animus. Isaish, mad, tells her to rest well and how they will start tomorrow. Natalya knows that tomorrow will be war.
Chapter Two[edit | edit source]
At the storage unit, Owen and Javier rest there, while Owen overhears Griffin being informed by Gavin Banks that the site has been compromised per Rothenburg's info. Griffin notes that he may have a new site but Banks states to rendezvous with Rebecca Crane. Griffin tells Owen and Javier to load what they can just like they did for Mount McGregor. Owen still stares at Griffin's gauntlet. Having only three minutes, they move towards the unit with the car. However, they see lights coming forward and head the opposite way. Climbing atop the storage units' roof, they watch as more lights from the road and sky comes to convene at their storage unit. Griffin explodes the hideout and tells the boys to follow his directions and arm themselves. Telling them to stay sharp, Griffin reminds them that is not an exercise.
Passing the storage units alley by alley, Owen notices three agents in front of them before Javier and Griffin. While Owen throws EMP grenades to immoblize them, they recognize eight agents in total, but Javier shoots his darts filled with neurotoxin while Griffin uses his electric hidden blade. However, Owen tries to throw a smoke grenade but he starts to freeze. Before long, a female Templar agent pushes him down and grabs rebar to attack. Although she bests him, Griffin manages to kill her and save Owen. Finally using the smoke grenade, Griffin manages to take down the last two Templars. Griffin tells them to hurry before the Order notices their agents to have gone silent.
Moving their way through a lot and dodging the helicopter's light, they find a busy street. Putting their weapons away, they follow Griffin and enter into a cab to flee. Looking back, Owen starts to wonder why he froze and how the memories of the riots and his ancestor Varius may be beginning to fade. In the clear, Owen and Javier compliment each other while Griffin congratulates them. A mile later, they all head towards a dirt road before arriving at a large house that appears to be centuries years old. Seeing the house, Owen doubts that anyone is here until the front door opens. Rebecca welcomes Griffin and the boys and invites them in quickly. Closing the door with an electrical lock, they all make the way through the house.
Leading them, Rebecca leads them through the darkness and then to a door leading them to a basement staircase. Going down slowly, Owen tries to not injure himself down the raggedy stairs. Rebecca turns out the light and shows them her room. She mentions that Shaun acquired new schematics for a new Abstergo tech. However, Rebecca states that she needs to go and tells them it should be easy to use. Griffin, frustrated, understands and asks what it is required of him. Rebecca mentions that the second prong was seen in medieval China and points to Owen, whose ancestors happen to be there.
Chapter Three[edit | edit source]
Sean remains antsy to go into the Animus again but is managed on his duration by Victoria. Meeting David and Natalya for breakfast, Sean staggers to hide his feelings for Natalya especially since Monroe's simulation. Grace joins them while David asks Natalya if she found the Piece of Eden yet. Natalya states no. Sean tries to comfort her but it falls flat. He soon leaves to go back to be Tommy Greyling again. Sean, cautious of people's eyes on him, wheels himself to meet with Victoria, who reminds him that he needs a day or more for breaks from the Animus. Ready to be Tommy again, Victoria informs him that will not be possible. Angry, Sean starts arguing with her until Isaiah comes in to calm down Sean. Victoria finally divulges that Tommy's memories' benefits have plateaued and offers Sean to go to different ancestors.
Isaiah explains that his motor cortex has been activated again since his accident. His work in the Animus could lay the foundation for prosthetics that may help people gain mobility, like Sean walking again. Victoria explains that they all learned everything they can from Tommy. Asking to visit Tommy again in the future, Isaiah considers it and tells Sean about the progress that can come from Sean's aid. Going forward, they inform Sean that will go to late eighteenth century Ireland. Isaiah tells Sean that all of three of them will make history. Feeling useful, Sean is readied for the Animus again although it is uncomfortable compared to Monroe's. Sean starts to recall a memory of falling into the river and how he was saved downstream by his uncle. He relates that to the Parietal Suppressor. In the next three seconds, he feels the wave again once the Memory Corridor is loaded.
Chapter Four[edit | edit source]
Grace keeps a close eye on the group and feels like Sean, in terms of wanting more from this venture. Although, she notices how Sean feels about Natalya but cannot see Natalya's true feelings. Grace barely overhears David and his simulation as a black war pilot and starts a conversation on Grace's simulation as a gold trader in medieval kingdoms of Ghana and Mali. They also discuss about how they continued with the program. Initially, Grace and David were taken out of the Aerie due to their father's insistence. However, due to a random shooting near home, their father brings them back for security. Grace and David soon leave the lounge and Natalya to herself before going for their sessions. However, Grace has to wait longer for Victoria to bring her into the Animus.
Before going into the Animus, Grace begins to questions her worth to this mission due to her ancestor not being close to a Piece of Eden like Natalya's. However, Victoria starts to pry into her worries which causes Grace to retract her questioning. Being hooked up, Grace soon enters the Memory Corridor and awaits the pain of Parietal Suppressor. Entering the simulation, she follows Masireh, a gold merchant who lives in Timbuktu. Masireh moves to a meeting with another merchant from Marrakech. Unlike fellow merchants, he is guided through pragmatism when doing business. Although wanting to do business at his home, he meets the merchant at an inn. Seeing his guards, Masireh thanks the merchant for his hospitality.
The merchant nears a deal but starts to question Masireh's operation and its longevity. Thus, the merchants states that his partners want him to personally check Masireh's mines with him, to eye the inventory. However, Masireh explains the mines of Wangara are closely guarded secrets and rejects the condition, despite Grace's worries. The merchants states that they may come to an understanding. Quickly, Masireh realizes that he had been poisoned. Meanwhile, Grace asks if this feeling in the corridor is normal. However, technician Anaya Chodary answers her and informs her that Victoria left for Natalya. Waiting, Grace sees that Masireh is coming to in the memory.
Masireh is bound all over and taken to a secluded part of the desert. The merchant tries to threaten him to reveal the location but he remains steadfast and knows there are no buyers. However, he worries about his wife and his sons looking for him. However, Masireh starts to mock the merchant, believing word will spread fast of his conduct during business. The merchant takes out Masireh's knife and slices the gold trader's cheek. However, it does not fade Masireh. The kidnapper states that he has five hours to decide to help them or not. Trying to escape, Masireh sees that his captor left thus he begins to read the stars for her location. Masireh looks around and notices the guards with their weapons and camels. Praying to Allah, Masireh readies himself for the possible torture and opportunity to escape.
Chapter Five[edit | edit source]
Natalya begins to wonder if her choice was right as she starts to wait for her turn in Animus instead of going herself. Finding a place of relaxation, she waits until Isaiah finds her and invites himself to the room. He apologizes about coming off impatient and walks her to the Animus. However, she waits for a while until Victoria walks in and explains that Grace and Sean needed more time. She also offers Natalya an opening to talk about any memories or feelings of PTSD due to her ancestor's memory. Natalya thanks her as they ready the Animus. Following through the corridor, Natalya lies back while she lets Bayan take it from the last moment.
Bayan is rallying the troops for Dechen's plan and hopes to surprise the Song, while they all pace forward without their horses. Waiting for the moon to set, he sees Chen Lun again, still afraid. Although she feels for Chen Lun, she is stuck as a passenger to Bayan's memories. When Dechen signals his men, they march to the base of the mountain. Another flag is done and the infantry, including Bayan's unit, climbs the mountain. Chen soon signals again for the infantry to prepare to assault while the archers wait. Marching up the mountain slowly after the throwers completed their hooks, Bayan's men climb first before he makes sure no one deserted their post. When he climbs ten feet above, he notices his men falling down one by one. He looks around and finds arrows coming in from the northwest.
Realizing they have been caught, Wang signals to climb down. Bayan jumps down immediately before smelling the blood in the air. Looking around for the archer, the Song notices them and thus he and his men bolt to the trees for safety. Bayan is told to take his company and march towards the enemy to engage and draw their fire using the remaining ropes. Scouting for his captains, he musters up twenty men to accompany him on his new mission. Wanting the moon to shine its light, they move slowly through the grass and catch sight of one of the archers. Telling his men to spread, Bayan soon gives the signal to attack. Bayan strikes down the archer and dodges incoming arrows.
Bayan and his men dodge the arrows and soon he almost engages the second archer. However, he is attacked by a shadowy figure. Tagging him as a veteran, Bayan fights him while one of his men fights the archer. Finally gaining an opportunity, he launches multiple attacks but the man dodges all of them. Missing most of his left ear, the veteran proves to be better. Wanting to fight to the death, an explosion occurs. Realizing the Song military has brought artillery, the battle is lost. However, he feigns surprise as the veteran attacks. With a slick move, Bayan manages to stab the veteran on his side fatally. Signaling his men to retreat back to the Horde, he sees the front line in disarray. However, the men surrounds Wang Dechen, who was injured from battle. With the Song realizing the Horde was not retreating, the battle was at a stalemate.
Bayan soon finds Wang with a shaman and tends to the wound. By the shaman's request, they find and kill an ox and soon cut the belly open. Instantly, the Great Möngke Khan comes in while Bayan informs him of Wang's injuries. Helping Bayan and the shaman, they put him into the belly of the ox. Khan tells Bayan that losing Wang would losing his right and left arm and then asks him if he was there. Bayan summarizes that their attack was found out and that Wang was caught from the Song's artillery. Understanding, he orders Wang to the temple at Jin Yun. Looking at Wang, Bayan sees the shaman worry as the men take the general inside the ox away. Bayan begins to doubt as the gods may be punishing Khan for his arrogance of going to attack the Song. However, he soon begins to wonder how the Song archers realized their plan. Outside the memory, Victoria asks if Natalya needs a break. Natalya pleads yes.
Chapter Six[edit | edit source]
Owen is told that he will be heading to China when the Mongols were invading under the Khan's reign. They note that Monroe may have found one during Möngke Khan's rule especially around the time of his death. Rebecca helps Owen into the Animus while Javier sits on the sideline. While guiding Owen through the Animus, Rebecca notes that she will be leaving once the memory synchronization has completed. In the Memory Corridor, Owen notices that his ancestor is a woman named Zhang Zhi. He comes through in the Fishing Village as Zhi, waiting for her father to return from the war.
Meanwhile, Zhi trains on her techniques and her own Eagle vision until a soldier comes by and orders her to come with him. At a barracks, she meets with General Wang Jian who stands over her father's body. Realizing his corpse, she weeps over him while the general explains that he saved many of the men. He only succumbed to a splinter group within the invaders. Taking his hidden blade as a shrine. When arriving home, Zhi is met by Kang, the Chinese Mentor, but refuses to talk. He explains that his death was of his own accord due to his devotion to the people of his village. Nevertheless, he offers a place with the Brotherhood to her to honor her father. Conflicted, she requests time to think about what to do. After some time, she goes to Kang enraged, accepts his offer, and vows to kill Möngke Khan herself. Kang states that the real training can begin.
Chapter Seven[edit | edit source]
Sean is in a simulation as Brandon Bolster, a mature man and husband with daughters living in Ireland. However, Bolster's son Richard Bolster gives him a notice, a threat from the secret societies created against the recent changes to the land of County Cork under Bolster's rule. After changing the land from an acreage to a pasture, farmers have lost their job and formed angry mobs and groups. However, Bolster admits that this land is for his family for centuries to come while Richard sympathizes with the community and wants to talk with them. However, Brandon refuses.
The next day, Brandon wakes up and looks out into the mist, unafraid of the Whiteboys' threats. However, he grows paranoid when seeing his herdsmen arrive and begins to doubt them. Upon reaching his home, he tells Richard to arm himself and those he trusts to be ready with the Whiteboys, if they come to the house. Brandon states they will not barter with traitors, although Richard mentions that his father severed ties first. After Richard leaves him, Brandon readies his men after doubting his faith in his son. Trying to move his daughters and his wife away from the threat, Brandon sees them stand by him. At dinner, he finally sees Richard join them. Afterwards, they both talk privately and Richard affirms his loyalty to his father, despite the situation.
Readying and barricading the door, the family stays together in the drawing room. Meanwhile, Sean begins to worry about where the memory is going. Victoria interrupts and tells Sean that there is no moment Brandon made contact with the Piece of Eden. However, Sean asks for more time, to which Victoria agrees. Night comes and a mob arrives. Soon, they start throwing bricks but they start to throw torches at the home. This causes Brandon, Richard, and their men to shoot down the assailants, but this angers the mob further. Some of the mob tries to burn the stables but the wetness proved too much to catch fire. However, they realize the mob lined up together. Brandon tries to shoot but misses while some go down but not enough. They start to intrude Brandon's home, set aflame the curtains, and make their way towards Brandon's daughter.
Instantly, Victoria tells Sean that she is ending the memory. Despite fighting it, Sean goes back to the Memory Corridor. He pleads to save his daughters, but Victoria reminds him that it is a memory and not "his" daughters. Sean starts to agree while Victoria acquires his permission to use the parietal suppressor. After going through this ordeal, Sean is offered to speak with Isaiah. Unsure, Sean wonders and asks what could they talk about with each other. Victoria explains that they see potential in Sean.
Chapter Eight[edit | edit source]
Masireh tries to sleep with the coldness and insects but knows that his use relies on his knowledge of the mines but remains to be silent. When the merchant arrives, a knife appears as the captor tells Masireh that his patience is out. Masireh lies by stating that he knows nothing about the mines' location but that there is a map with a trusted friend. Loosening the restraints, they escort Masireh back into his town. Masireh begins to calm down his neighbors about their worries and made it to his friend's house. Upon arrival, his associate welcomes them but Masireh lies by saying that his brother has died in an accident and he will need the map he has.
His friend states that he will find it and shows them to his courtyard to wait. Upon giving the map, the man states that he will need proof of Masireh's brother dead. Unsure how, the merchant hears that they can compromise. The man offers the map for exchange of holding Masireh's life as a collateral. Looking at his odds, the merchant agrees and Masireh is given to the man while the merchant and his men leave with the map. After they leave, the man embraces Masireh and reveals himself as the brother. Meanwhile, the memory starts to slow as Anaya tells Grace that there is a low probability of finding a Piece of Eden. Understanding, Grace leaves the simulation while Anaya tells her that Isaiah wants to see her.
Meeting Isaiah in his office, Grace asks if she can help further like Natalya. However, Isaiah explains that they are all helping but asks her why she and David chose to come back after the initial rejection. Although she states it was for further opportunities, Grace knows that she wants to matter and contribute. Isaiah promises that in due time, they will all be rewarded and maybe help Abstergo. After their conversation, Grace joins Sean and David in the lobby. While discussing their meeting, Grace becomes annoyed at David's joyful demeanor and scolds him for his behavior. David admits that they should have some fun while learning, to which Sean agreed to some extent. David soon explicitly ponders of what they are not seeing, due to their restrictive nature to only two buildings. Although Grace says that they cannot do much, David offers up a possibility.
Chapter Nine[edit | edit source]
Zhi begins training under Kang, who pushes to the extremes in their training. Although completing the tasks, Zhi repeats the course while Kang tells her to be faster or the Khan will easily kill her. After several times, Zhi is exhausted when she receives his nod. Later, they eat together and Kang questions whether their actions mean anything in this life. Zhi states that she will not be discouraged. Kang asks when she will take action but she responds that she waits for him. He laughs which upsets her. Leaving, Zhi hears Kang yell to meet at sunrise. Zhi arrives home and prays to her father's gauntlet to make him proud before falling to sleep.
Waking up, Zhi goes to Kang's house, where he tells that she is late. When Zhi apologizes, Kang chastizes her. Having enough, Zhi tells him that it does not matter and her father's honor does. Kang insults her and tells that the Brotherhood is what her father matters not one's vengeance. Kang states that his decision will happen when she honors the Brotherhood as much as her father. Fed up, she tries to assault him but he responds quickly and knocks her down with his staff. Poking her bump, Kang states that her father's death won the battle, but he could of won the war. Zhi stands up and leaves while Kang states to come tomorrow at sunrise on time. She, though, has no intention on returning.
Late that night, Zhi readies her armor and takes her father's gauntlet to Feiyan Cave. Going down its staircase into vast darkness, she finds a lantern to follow her direction. Despite the village's superstitions, she has heard about the soldiers making passage through the mountain to their camp. Making her way to find an exit, she abandons the lantern and finds herself outside her home village. Freerunning to the Mongols' camp, she catches sight of the guards and their patrols. Studying them, she realizes the forest being cut down but it makes it easy to determine to find the richest "palaces" of them all.
With her wrist crossbow, Zhi takes down the two guards and hides by the side of the tent. Climbing the pillar for a better vintage point, she sees into the Khan's massive tent. Finding the Khan in his bedroom, she soon hears the guards below start an alarm. Instantly, she falls onto the Khan and plunges her blade into his throat, killing him. Owen soon notices the Dagger of Eden on Khan's body but Zhi starts to find a way out before the guards surround her. At another exit, she kills two more guards but is caught instantly. Running through the camp, she is chased and heads for the forest. However, she feels complete as she has avenged her father.
Chapter Ten[edit | edit source]
David remains awake after Grace posed him that reality of what happens if he messes up, especially in front of their father. However, he remains skeptical of Abstergo even about the corridors and places they have not seen. In the night, he ventures out of his room and goes to the unknown corridor. Finding himself near a locked door, David sees that it needs a fingerprint. Scoping the area, he stops once he hears a guard. Taking his shoes off, he hides until the guard leaves the area. Finding a staircase, he follows it down and finds a garage. Seeing the familiar cars that took them here, he goes inside one of the most expensive cars and envisions himself riding it.
However, David soon hides once he sees cars arriving and Templar agents coming out. One of the agents Cole meets with Isaiah about the failure of securing Griffin, Javier, and Owen. Isaiah then explains that the Templar Order wants the boys dead as their DNA will not be used by the Assassins. Shocked, David learns that Monroe was telling the truth. Waiting till everyone leaves, David retraces his steps and makes his way to his room. However, he is soon caught by a guard. Thinking quickly, he begins to stumble and bump repeatedly into the wall. The guard soon asks if he is okay but David acts as he was sleepwalking. Taken to his room, the guard tells him that he will be safe and how he will tell Victoria about the incident.
The next morning, David readies quickly and meets the group for breakfast. He explains what he heard last night but Sean and Grace reject the notion and believe that he was sleepwalking. With Natalya silent, David finds himself alone with his notion. However, Natalya states that she does not trust either side. Not wanting to lose their opportunity, Grace and Sean leave but David asks if she was telling the truth. Natalya explains that they should wait and see for the truth but that Templars and even Monroe have their own agendas. Back to his room, he meets with Victoria, who explains that they will keep a closer eye on him. Panicked, David is told that his door will be locked temporaily as a precaution. However, Victoria explains that she will also look over last night's tapes to ascertain more, which frightens David.
Chapter Eleven[edit | edit source]
Javier, bored with sitting around, tries to make use of his time but finds himself uneased with the situation. Wondering about his family and then Owen, he asks Griffin for a moment of air outside. Initially rejecting the notion, Griffin reluctantly allowed only twenty minutes. Outside, Javier comes across a group of cars and looks around them. Finding the keys of one of them, he takes one and drives back into the city, against his orders. Making his way into the city, he stops at a police warehouse, to investigate any evidence revolving around Owen's father.
Trying to scale the warehouse, Javier falls and tries to find another entrance. Taking down security cameras, he makes his way inside the warehouse and silently looks for any files pertaining to the incident with Owen's father. After forty minutes, he discovers both files and an evidence box pertaining to the incident. However, guards start to walk inside thus Javier grabs the evidence and begins to leave. Running into a guard, Javier pushes the man down and throws a smoke bomb to cover his run. Taking out his crossbow, he shoots the guard with a sleep dart and continues forward until he meets a fence. Out of options, he uses an explosive grenade to break through and another smoke bomb to cover his escape.
Running and entering his car, Javier scopes the area and drives away seemingly without any detection. Back at the safehouse, he sees Griffin waiting for him. Exiting the car, Javier goes to Griffin, who instantly grabs him and tells him he has been tracking him regardless of his trick. When Griffin demands why he went to a police warehouse, Javier states that he wanted to find any evidence for Owen. Loosening his grasp, Griffin pushes him inside and then looks over the evidence with Javier. Reprimanding Javier, Griffin states they all must be careful from the Templars.
Although Javier admits that he was careful, Griffin states that the choice will come for him to choose a side. While Javier retorts that this goes against the idea of "free will," Griffin agrees but still remains adamant that neither side will care. After some time, Javier looks over the evidence but sees nothing but guilt against Owen's father. Determined to find any proof of innocence, Javier is called by Griffin, who states Owen has found trouble. Javier asks if he saw the prong, to which Griffin agrees.
Chapter Twelve[edit | edit source]
Natalya enters the room for her simulation but is unnerved about David's comments. She then asks Victoria about Owen and Javier, which surprises the doctor. Victoria explains that although they have not and she has worked with the Assassins once, she states that the Templars helped her more. Feeling nervous, Natalya pushes forward to start the simulation again.
Bayan starts to witness the downfall of morale among the troops after the death of Wang Dechen. Bayan states the Song has not attempted to attack but enemies are rumored to attack, implying a hidden route. With permission, Bayan goes alone and ventures to find any route near the mountains. Locating the Song watchmen being alert and secure, he begins to feel envy and fear, due to the Song outlasting them. Back to the forest, he retraces his steps back to where he killed his last opponent. Going forward, he hears a stream and theorizes a cave nearby. However, he hides himself when he hears footsteps.
Looking up, Bayan sees a woman dressed in black coming out of the cave. Abandoning his mission, he begins to track the woman. However, her knowledge proves better as he loses track of her. Back to his original task, he tastes the water and finds it sweet and cold. Exploring further, Bayan fails to find the entrance. Waiting for the scout, he catches sight of her and then shoots her with his arrow. Going forward, he notices that the arrow hit her knee but she remains defiant to fight. Bayan attacks her but she fires a poison bolt at him and stabs him in the side with her blade. Shocked, he kicks the arrow into her knee more but retreats.
Stumbling back, Bayan barely makes it back to the camp before falling down on the ground. The simulation grows dark while Natalya asks if he died. Victoria explains that would not be possible, to which Natalya remembers. When Victoria asks if she wants to continue, Natalya agrees. Back into the simulation, Bayan wakes up to see Asutai overlooking him and the bolt that shot him. While Bayan tries to rise, Asutai tells him to lay back down. Bayan reveals how he failed to take her down but injured her completely. Atusai commends him but tells him that his father had died to the female killer. Shocked, Bayan wonders how the army is taking it. Asutai states they have not told them and will sell a fable that he has become sick and die a week later.
Understanding, Bayan asks why he is being told this while Asutai holds the bolt to him. Asutai explains that he is the only one to survive a bolt like this. While Bayan humbles himself, Asutai states that with arrangements being made, he wants Bayan as one of his new personal guards. Still weak, Bayan asks how this will be. After some time resting, Bayan will be expected to help with the arrangements especially helping Asutai bury his father next to the former Khans. However, he states that his father's death will fracture the family due to the succession. Bayan, although feeling unworthy, accepts the offer. Glad, Asutai leaves before Bayan falls back to sleep.
Chapter Thirteen[edit | edit source]
Sean readies and becomes a little anxious to head back into the Animus, however is surprised when the room is empty. One of the technicians tells him that Victoria and Isaiah plan to see him in the conference room. Wheeling there, he notices both adults talking heavily to each other and eavesdrops. Victoria accuses Isaiah of manipulating Sean into the Animus with the promise of his legs, which Isaiah refutes. When Sean enters, Isaiah asks him to join while Victoria states this way is not the only path and there is life beyond the Animus. However, Sean states that he believes Isaiah and wants to help with the prosthetics planning.
Isaiah happily turns to Sean and tells him a team will be coming in soon about the prosthetics. While Sean waits, he notices the tension and divide between Victoria and Isaiah. A team of five doctors comes in and one introduces himself as Dr. Thomas Marshall, who is estatic to meet Sean. With Isaiah's insistencec, Dr. Marshall shows an outlook of Sean's brain and admits with such data, they could create the prosthetics within a year tops. Happy, Sean asks when he can back into the Animus. Happy to hear, Isaiah asks Victoria to help Sean back into the Animus, much to her silence.
Exiting the conference, Sean tries to reassure Victoria that there is no need of concern. Victoria states that she hopes he will be fine. Getting ready into Animus, Sean is told to wait while she readies his next simulation of tenth-century Scandinavia. Thrilled about the Vikings, Sean tells her that he knows she cares about his well-being but Victoria states that he is not broken at all. Sean admits it does not feel that way especially when a drunkard nearly ran him over years ago. Victoria tells him that she does really care about what happens to him. Sean understands and knows. Readying, Sean enters into the simulation.
Entering the simulation aboard a longship, Sean relives the memory as Styrbjörn the Strong, who stands besides his sister Gyrid as they travel after being ousted by their uncle Eric the Victorious. Sailing to Jomsborg, they arrive at the gates but see no hosts. Yelling out his name, Styrbjörn yells out his name and presence and demands the gates open or risk his wrath. Initially silent, the gates begin to open but Gyrid wonders if Jomsborg will welcome her due to no women allowed. Stopping at the port, a group of warriors ask for Styrbjörn's reason to be here. He asks for an audience with Palnatoke but the warriors ask about Gyrid's presence.
Styrbjörn states that Gyrid is the daughter of a King of Sweden. The delegation escorts them to their chieftain, who addresses Styrbjörn for his arrival. Styrbjörn asks if he heard of his predicament. Palnatoke states that he heard but remains adamant of what brings them here. Styrbjörn soon demands the reins of his army as his own.
Chapter Fourteen[edit | edit source]
With her knee completely broken, Zhi climbs her way to the cave despite the immense pain. Wanting to sleep inside the cave, she knows her father's presence is around her and continues to climb. At points of near defeat, she trumps through the pain and then the cave. She finds her way to Kang's house and waits for him there. Lying on the ground, she sees Kang and asks him if she is late. Kang states she is on time. Griffin checks on Owen, who finds Zhi's determination inspiring, and asks him if he is okay. Owen says he is fine and asks to continue.
Resting, Zhi soon finds herself in a bed while Kang sleeps in waiting. Raising her head, she wakes up Kang, who smiles at her on her recent killing. When she asks about the blade, Kang begins to frown as he tells her that he took back the blade. Shocked, she demands to know if it is because her actions and her defiance. Kang retorts that none of those reasons matters but her leg does. He explains that from his personal experience, her knee will heal to make her walk but she will not be a true Assassin or run again.
Kang promises that her efforts and action will not be forgotten and she will be taken care of, but this leaves her feeling nothing. Although despite Kang leaving her afterwards, she feels the emptiness again like when her father died. She has nothing left for purpose and begins to cry once laying back down. Owen soon outright asks to be let out. Griffin complies while Owen waits and thinks how similar he and Zhi are, especially with his own father. Out of the Animus, he is met by Javier and Griffin, who states they must try another approach.
Meanwhile, Javier shows Owen the evidence he found on his father. Griffin states that Javier went out of bounds to gain this information from a police warehouse, much to Owen's surprise. Within the evidence, Owen sees a spit sample after Owen's father's arrest. Wanting to relive his father's actions, Griffin states that this Animus cannot help. Owen asks if there is one but Griffin states that would be Abstergo's Helix, which is not the one they have.
Hopeful again, Owen turns to Griffin, who refocuses them on the prong. Griffin plans to ask Gavin on any new information from Rothenburg. While the boys look over the evidence, they soon try to eavesdrop on Gavin and Griffin's conversation. Griffin returns and states that there is no new information and insinuates that one of their fellow friends must be reliving the time where the prong was used. Owen starts to think on who must be the other key to find the prong. However, Griffin states their new objective would be target acquistion. Owen asks what Piece of Eden but Griffin states that he plans to break into the Aerie to rescue their friends.
Chapter Fifteen[edit | edit source]
David wonders what will happen once Victoria looks over the footage. Knowing his father will be coming, David also overhears the rest of them talking about Natalya's ancestor coming close to the second prong. Meeting with Grace, David tries to ponder whether to tell his father of what he heard and if he wants to leave, depending on their safety and Grace's desire to stay. When their father arrives, Grace starts to stare and judge David on his possible decision. Their father talks to them and asks how they are doing, to which both stated they are fine. However, David struggles to decide to tell his father on leaving, with his sister not agreeing and fighting if he does.
Their father also condemns Monroe, who put them both through the riots but commends Abstergo's simulation of their war pilot or African ancestors' pasts. David ultimately remains silent while their father leaves after saying goodbye. After some time, the group convenes again and talk about David again until Victoria and Isaiah walk in sternly. Before long, they all talk about David's incursion last night and almost terminate all of their stays. Although Grace and Sean blame David, Isaiah states that there is now a curfew and doors will be locked to prevent this again.
When Natalya states they are now prisoners, Isaiah tries to backtrack and offers them to leave. When all of them agrees to the terms, Isaiah accepts them. When the adults left, Sean and Grace warn David not to mess up again. When they leave, David asks Natalya about her thoughts. Natalya admits that she does not want to give or help Isaiah find the prong.
Chapter Sixteen[edit | edit source]
Javier and Owen begin to argue with Griffin on helping his mission to take back their group. Although not Assassins, both admit that the group will be more willing to join them if they are there. Decided, Griffin tells them to arm themselves as much as they can. Together, they travel to the Aerie. After three hours, they park away and start to scope out the area. Knowing the Abstergo men are trained more, they move through the forest and past the cameras. Using their Eagle Vision, the boys move their way around any possible cameras. However, Griffin manages to disable one to move quicker towards the Aerie.
Making their way to the fence, Griffin climbs a tree nearest to it and shoots a zipline to one of the Aerie's buildings. The boys start to go on the zipline but the alarm sounds off. With the boys making their way across the zipline, the alarm stops but Griffin remains. At a stalemate, Griffin is cornered when Abstergo guards come out to engage. However, Javier throws an EMP but to no effect on the guards. Away from Griffin, they realize that they are separated but continue to find and rescue their friends.
Chapter Seventeen[edit | edit source]
Grace remains awake but tired of taking care of David. Ever since they simulated as Eliza and Abraham, Grace has felt a change in their dynamic. Suddenly, a siren goes off and Grace is alert. Wanting to leave, the door remains locked. But after some time, the door unlocks and someone enters inside her room. Calling out her name, she recognizes it is David. Wanting to check the situation, they soon look for the others and soon find Natalya. Going to Sean's room, they wake him up and Sean wonders what is going on. When the siren dies out, Sean questions why they are all out of their room. David states they should investigate, but Sean immediately rejects them and goes back to sleep.
Searching around the buildings, they all see the other buildings' lights out but keep moving around to find any guards. Empty, they soon come across a guard who calls them out. He reveals himself as Monroe, with the kids initially reluctant to trust him. However, Monroe explains that not all is what it seems and he came to rescue them. Natalya instantly agrees to go with him and then David agrees. Grace tries to stop David from leaving but David explains that he has to go. Amidst Monroe and Natalya leaving, the door almost shuts behind them. However, David makes it through while Grace stops herself.
Through the door's window, Grace and David try to open the door but David knows he has to go. Convincing her that he will be okay, David goes with Monroe and Natalya. Unsure why she has agreed, Grace finds herself alone and David gone.
Chapter Eighteen[edit | edit source]
Owen and Javier scout the area and tries to break inside the facility. However, with the building being made of glass, they climb atop an enormous tree with Owen planning to make a jump from the tree to the ceiling. Realizing this will be his first jump, Owen readies himself until both of them see a guard below them. Reassured, they climb back down and jumped the guard. Seeing her nametag to be Cole, they forced her to open the door with her fingerprint before Javier knocks her out. Looking through the building, they come across the Animus devices and found their rooms but empty. Looking forward, they soon come across more guards.
Using their vision, they dodge the patrols and cameras and came to the garage. There, they overhear a group within a car and assume it is their friends escaping. However, their vision soon catch sight of more Templar guards. Using the pain grenade, Javier throws it while Owen non-lethally takes down the guards. However, their bombs and tools ran out while the guards grow in number. Fortunately, Monroe soon takes down some of them himself and meets with the boys. Catching up, Javier is told to go to their car while Owen and Monroe provide cover.
Needing to stay behind, Owen holds off the incoming reinforcements while the car drives away. Pinned down, Owen is cornered by Abstergo guards led by Isaiah, who comes into the garage. Isaiah reveals their stunt almost worked with their Assassin guide's help, telling Owen that Griffin managed to escape. Before he could surrender, Monroe reveals himself, shocking Owen and Isaiah. Telling him that it is a child and to lower their guns, Monroe is captured while Isaiah commands his men to lower their arms. Owen soon reveals himself while Isaiah asks if Javier stole the car. While Owen remains silent, he is taken by Abstergo thugs.
Chapter Nineteen[edit | edit source]
David, in the car with Javier and Natalya, escape the Aerie from the guards and their gunshots. While driving, the car stops once Javier sees and picks up Griffin. Driving, Griffin meets the other two kids before driving away further from the Aerie. Although unsure how he was going to tell his father, David rides along with Natalya while they go over what has happened. However, while they all talk about the sides, Griffin hushes them up by saying that they have not really dealt with the Templars.
Making their way back to base, Griffin tells them to rest while they think about their next steps. Javier starts to fill in Natalya and David about what they have gone through while going over the evidence files of Owen's father. After talking to Gavin, Griffin informs the group that Rothenburg nearly quit the assignment but has informed that Isaiah plans to go to Mongolia to search the Khan's digsite. Although the area is widespread, their planning will take time. Griffin soon asks Natalya for her help to determine a more precise location of the second prong.
Natalya agrees on the condition that they all go to Mongolia together. Griffin argues that he may not put on the mission but Natalya states that is the only way she will help. David backs her up and asks Griffin for her to talk with Gavin. Griffin agrees to the deal while David begins to wonder why Grace and Sean have stayed behind. However, upon seeing Natalya see her past and Sean and Grace relived their pasts, David understands the responsibility he has eluded that comes from learning and reliving the past.
Chapter Twenty[edit | edit source]
Sean waits in his room while Isaiah visits him under the alarms. Asking about the rest of the group, Isaiah is told that Sean only speaks for himself. While everything calms down, Sean is visited by Grace, who tells him that Natalya and David left. She feels uncertain about letting David go but was sure that she was not done with the Aerie. Before long, Sean consoles her before they are called to meet Isaiah. Going up to the fourth floor, Isaiah welcomes them while they see Owen and his hands tied up.
Owen remains defiant and believes Isaiah to be the enemy, while Sean refuses Owen's outlook and Grace's contrasting argument. Isaiah then releases Owen's restraints and shows him evidence of Owen's father and the crime he committed. While the evidence points to his guilt, Isaiah explains that his apparent proof showcases Owen's father was manipulated by the Assassins to attack Abstergo and was left alone once captured. Although in disbelief, Owen remains adamant about his father's innocence and begins to take out something. Moving quickly, Isaiah holds Owen at knifepoint menacingly before Owen takes out his father's DNA.
Halted by Isaiah's actions, Sean and Grace reevaluate the situation while Owen demands to go into his father's memories on that day. Realizing he needs the Helix, Isaiah agrees and tells him that it will take some time. Looking at Grace and Sean, Isaiah is joined by Victoria and asks them if they would like to continue their simulations or if they need some time. While Grace admits to wanting some time to think, Sean agrees to go back into Animus. With Victoria, he enters back into the simulation as Styrbjörn, who is about to face off against Palnatoke.
Facing off against Palnatoke, Styrbjörn manages to defend himself against the chieftain's attack but receives a major bruise on his shield arm. However, after multiple attacks from him, Styrbjörn weakens Palnatoke over time and bests him in combat. Controlling the Jomsvikings now, Styrbjörn tells Palnatoke that he does not intend to attack his uncle yet. He wants to march and invade the Christian Harald Bluetooth and his home.
Chapter Twenty-One[edit | edit source]
Natalya readies herself for the Animus as Griffin reassures her that there is no need for the Parietal Suppressor. While Griffin puts the Animus simulation a month after the Khan's death, Natalya recalls the feeling when working for Monroe. While in the Animus, Natalya enters in as Bayan, who travels with his army along the Black River while still recovering. He is soon called by Atusai, who discusses what transpired eighteen years ago under Subutai's leadership of Genghis Khan's army when they attacked Poland. At Legnica, they took in a prisoner, who was part of the Templar Order.
Bayan asked if it was a warrior society but Atusai affirms that they are not solely a warrior society, but they use war as a tool. He explains that his late father was a Templar and that he follows the same path but does not have the throne. Bayan asks what the Templars' purpose is but Atusai shows him the city of Iryai as an example. While walking through the city, Bayan recalls the army decimating the life here decades ago but now sees life flourishing. Atusai states that they bring order from the chaos, peace among any of different faiths, and iron justice.
However, Natalya sees that the Templars used this scorched earth tactic as a justification to kill thousands for their Order. Meanwhile, Bayan asks why his lord is telling him this. Atusai offers him a place among the Templars as most of the Kheshig are and how he sees Bayan as a perfect candidate. Astounded, he asks for some time to think about and Atusai agrees to it. Outside the Animus, Griffin asks if Natalya is ready to move forward and she asks to move six weeks ahead. While Griffin works on reconfiguring the timeline, Natalya still sees both sides as dangerous and wants them to stay away from the prong.
A new simulation occurs where Bayan escorting along Atusai, who leads the Kheshig, while the rest march with Möngke Khan's body to his burial site at Burkhan Khaldun. Knowing the dagger was with the Khan's body, Natalya worries that the Assassins may be closer to finding the location. Atusai welcomes and thanks Bayan for riding alongside him. He soon asks him if he had considered his offer. However, Natalya steps in and prolongs answering Atusai. Griffin tells not to intercept but Natalya responds no. Desynchronizing the system, Griffin accuses her of sabotage. Natalya admits that she will continue to do so because she does not want either side to have the prong.
Pulling her out of the simulation, Griffin berates her while Javier and David try to step in to protect her. However, Natalya, despite her brain fog, stated that she is neither Assassin or Templar and that this is not her war. Griffin remains silent until he states they are all caught in the middle and will die nevertheless. Using Monroe as an example, he theorizes why he stayed since he was once a Templar and how it may be for Owen or his own plans. Natalya does not care and follows up on Griffin for his promise. Regretting the decision, Griffin states that she did not follow through on her end. She promises to help find the tomb when they are all in Mongolia. Ending the conversation, she is still thinking on how to evade both the Assassins and the Templars.
Chapter Twenty-Two[edit | edit source]
Owen begins to relive his father's memories on the day of the robbery. His father starts his time by going into the bank's bathroom and hiding in there until the correct time. Luckily bypassing security, he opens the emergency exit and lets in a fellow accomplice. Hiding his face, the accomplice holds his gun and begins to demand money from the tellers along with more robbers, while Owen's father begins to question his choices. A shot goes off and someone is killed. Gathering the money, they all try to escape. Owen then tells Isaiah to stop the simulation. Although he knows his father is not a killer, he sees that his father was still part of the crime itself. Owen then asks Isaiah if he can talk with Monroe, to which Isaiah staggerily agrees.
After the simulation, Owen is escorted back to the waiting room and stares out the window. Now a prisoner, he begins to wonder which side is true and if his father was a puppet to the Assassins. Grace soon meets with him and talks about how it all went. Discussing their previous choices, they are soon joined by Sean and Dr. Victoria Bibeau. After meeting with her and Sean, Owen asks her when he could meet with Monroe but Victoria states she has no knowledge and that Isaiah has left. Realizing he was lied to, Owen demands to know if it was to Mongolia or China. Annoyed, Victoria states that she will see before leaving.
Owen and Grace then discuss to find out where Monroe is and how to follow Isaiah. Although reluctant, Grace agrees after Owen convinces her that it will most likely lead her back to David. Owen asks Sean if he can remain quiet but sees Sean is more interested in the Animus rather than helping his friends. Grace asks what the plan is while Owen states that he has one but she is not going to like it.
Chapter Twenty-Three[edit | edit source]
Javier and his friends ready themselves while Griffin remains irate over Natalya's defiance. Talking to Gavin, Griffin readies them up as he drives them all to the next location. David soon asks if they are flying in a private jet, to which Griffin jests and somewhat agrees. Passing an airport, they find themselves at a carrier warehouse. Inside, two men help the kids load onto their truck and they are driven a carrier plane. Griffin states they are all being shipped to Mongolia as a means to hide in plain sight.
Rather uncomfortable, Javier stays awake while Natalya and David remain asleep. Inside the plane, he and Griffin talk, which leads to Griffin inviting Javier into the Brotherhood with Gavin's permission. Javier, estatic, asks for some time to think about it, to which Griffin agrees. After some time, they arrive in Beijing, where they meet with Yanmei, a member of the Chinese Brotherhood. Introducing herself to Griffin, she took them all in a SUV and drove them to the next location. While Griffin informed her about the Pieces of Eden and how they seek the second prong at Khan's burial.
Arriving at a private jet, Yanmei asks the kids who they are while they explained what has happened with them so far. Griffin soon adds the burial is as close as they come due to Natalya's intentional desynchronization. Natalya cuts in and states that she believes that no one should know where the artifact is. Yanmei agrees on the sentiment but the problem is no longer where, but who has it at this point. Natalya does not debate the thought while Griffin states that he has a good idea where it may be. Yanmei plans to arrive at Möngönmorit in an hour and then they would travel fifty miles to Burkhan Khaldun.
While the plane lowers, Yanmei tells the kids to look for any Templar base. However, one of their engines is shot as they believe that they have been spotted by the Templars. Telling the kids to prepare for impact, Griffin safeguards them while Yanmei checks to see if she land the plane with minimal risk. Javier listens to Griffin but sees the trees becoming closer and knowing that they are about to hit the ground soon.
Chapter Twenty-Four[edit | edit source]
Grace does not agree with Owen's plan, which is to create a replica of a pain grenade while they search the other two buildings of the Aerie. Investigating the area, they notice that the guards are less frequent and the area is less secured. Finding a room with all these inventions, Owen understands why Sean is keen to help Isaiah while they keep searching for any way to Mongolia. However, they are stopped by Cole, who has been watching them since the beginning. Trying to scare her, Owen fails with his "pain grenade" as they are taken to the holding rooms.
Holding them at gunpoint, they are soon met with Monroe, who tells them that they are safe. Monroe and Cole prepare to leave the Aerie while Owen calls her Rothenburg. However, Cole shakes her head while giving Monroe equipment for their escape. Monroe explains that he and Cole have been preparing to help you all leave and that she is putting herself in danger. Already cutting off the surveillance, Cole leaves Monroe, who catches up with Owen and Grace while they go inside a shipping container. Stuck for the next twenty-four hours, Monroe asks them about the prongs' locations.
Owen tells him that they could not find the first prong as someone took it from Ulysses' home already. The second prong is at Mongolia and the third one is apparently in Scandinavia. They further talked about the Ascendance Event, where Monroe explains that the six of them share the sub-DNA that coincide to a particular event in the past, probably the birth of humanity. When they asked how much, Monroe concludes all of it. Knowing that Isaiah is near the same conclusion and the second prong, they all wait in the container while making their way to Mongolia.
Chapter Twenty-Five[edit | edit source]
David and his group experience the crash landing as he loses his glasses as the plane hits the ground. Fortunately, they suffer minimial injuries and leave the plan. Keeping their eyes open, they leave the plane and ask Natalya where they go due to her experience in the simulation. While Natalya leads the way, they all follow and keep an eye out for Templars, drones, or wolves. While traveling, David spots a shine and vehicles, as Yanmei confirms it is a Templar camp run by Abstergo. Although, Griffin mentions that they are far from the mark and that they should continue further west.
However, Yanmei notices their path is in the clear and thus dangerous for them to be spotted. Javier asks if they can go by night to avoid any surveillance, to which both Assassins agree and tell them to rest for now. While they took a rest, David hears a noise and begins to worry about the wolves. As the noise nears closer, David freezes but turns on a flashlight and points it at a moose. Griffin tells him to shut it off while the moose moves away from him. The Assassin soon reprimands David for nearly giving their position. While they begin to move, David sees a sequence of lights from below and knows it was a sequence that Grace knows from his simulation as a Tuskegee airman.
Branching away from the group, David travels alone to the camp. Moving as silently as possible, David makes his way to the Templar camp while making his way around the wildlife. In the camp, he looks for his sister but is spotted and caught by a guard. The guard captures him and tells Isaiah through their intercom that his sister's plan worked.
Chapter Twenty-Six[edit | edit source]
Owen, Monroe, and Grace arrive in Mongolia, right in the middle of Isaiah's camp. Knowing their surroundings, Monroe plans for them to run through the trees and make their way towards the Assassins if they can. About to leave, they all notice Isaiah leave his tent. Retreating back into the shipping container, they are called out by Isaiah, who tells them they know they are her from Victoria's correspondence. Cornered, they move out while Isaiah mentions that the Assassins survived the attack and the plane crash. Isaiah orders his men to ready a rocket launcher and blow them up at the camp. Grace soon pleads Isaiah to stop as she states that David will be with the Assassins.
Halted, Isaiah wonders what they can do but Grace states that she knows how to have David come down. Telling him about the Tuskegee lights, they use the sequence to signal David. At gunpoint, Owen, Monroe, and Grace are moved to a tent with Isaiah and wait. David is soon caught and Grace almost hugs him, but is brought down to her seat by Isaiah. Interrogating David, Isaiah demands to tell him what he knows. Grace again pleads David to tell him. David admits that he knows where the prong is and how Griffin has tried to move around them to a location near a turtle statue.
With this news, Isaiah mobilizes his men and within fifteen minutes, he arms himself. Telling the guards to stay with the prisoners, Isaiah leaves the camp. David soon asks to go to the bathroom and convinces one of the guards to go with him. Owen soon looks to Grace and signals her. Standing up, the guard goes to stop Owen but Owen and Grace uses Varius' and Eliza's techniques to incapacitate the guard. Freeing themselves and Monroe, the two take down any guard in their way along with David's guard. Retrieving David, Grace hugs him while David tells them to follow them to the real location.
Chapter Twenty-Seven[edit | edit source]
Natalya wants to stop David but Yanmei and Griffin tell them to venture forward away from the Templars. Griffin soon leads them to the burial site while Javier and Natalya discuss her reasons to be difficult. Natalya still ponders how to retrieve the prong and escape both the Assassins and the Templars. They soon notice the Templars moving the other way and use this to their advantage. At the location, Griffin implores Natalya to help them ascertain the prong's location further. Javier tells her that the Assassins represent free will but Natalya knows that free will should not be compelled.
Yanmei tells her the ironies about the Brotherhood and how Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad's teachings and the Creed have imposed to give up her free will to help others. She pleads Natalya to help them. Not disagreeing with Yanmei, she tells where to start digging. While the Assassins begin to dig, Natalya asks what will happen if the Templars catch them but Javier shows her his crossbow pistol. While Javier shows Natalya how to use it, Natalya shoots a sleep dart at Yanmei and then one at an incoming Griffin before aiming at Javier. Javier asks why but Natalya states that she still believes in the third option.
Telling Javier where to dig, Natalya tells him to look for anything that looks like a clue. Finding a Templar cross mechanism, they begin to dig themselves until they notice a group coming for them. While Javier readies himself, Natalya sees that the group is Monroe, Grace, David, and Owen. Catching up with each other, they all dig while keeping an eye for the Templars. Natalya is sad to hear that Sean stayed behind at the Aerie while Owen and Javier discuss how Owen is at a crossroads of believing the Templars over the Assassins' connection with his father's crimes.
Finding an access point, they all soon heard the Templars and their helicopters. While Grace, Owen, and Javier move towards the Templars, the group is outnumbered as a machine gun fires around them. Isaiah tells them to surrender or die. Monroe convinces the rest to hold their hands up while Grace, Owen and Javier are constrained by the Templar henchmen. Looking at the work, Isaiah asks where the Assassins are but Javier states that they left them behind. Nearing at the opening, Isaiah smiles while Natalya begins to regret not siding with Assassins earlier.
Chapter Twenty-Eight[edit | edit source]
Javier, along with Owen and Grace, are held by two Templar guards. However, gunfire ensues as Griffin and Yanmei come and attack the Templars. With the commotion, the three throw off the guards while Javier uses a smoke bomb and aids the Assassins to take down as many Templar guards as he can. Running out of bolts, he readies his throwing knives. However, he notices Isaiah escaping into the Khan's tomb and yells at Owen to follow him together. Following him down the dark path, Javier is on Isaiah's trail while Owen follows behind him.
Making their way to the tomb, Javier finds Isaiah holding the prong like he remembers when in the memories of his ancestor Cudgel Cormac. About to use one of his knives, Isaiah uses the prong and Javier envisions his family members around him. He becomes emotionally distraught from his parents' apparent disapproval and his brother's slurs coming at him. While Isaiah escapes, Owen rushes to Javier, who shakes off the visions. Javier tells him that this prong is the fear prong. Moving back out of the tomb, they notice Isaiah using the prong on all around him.
Trying to engage him again, Javier is again overwhelmed by the same visions. Isaiah is rushed by a teary Yanmei but this proves futile once he stabs her with the prong and tosses her aside. Proclaming himself to be no longer a Templar, he forces his former Templar cohorts to follow him while the rest will wait for his world domination. While the Templars drag themselves to follow him, Griffin goes to Yanmei. Complimenting her on her resilence, Griffin tells the kids to carry her to the tent and tells her to hold onto him.
While carrying him, they all begin to see Yanmei to struggle. On the ground, Griffin tells her to fight but Javier notices her body limp and no breath. She is gone. Griffin puts his knuckles on the ground, Natalya and Javier cry, while the rest stay silent. After a moment, Griffin stands up and carries Yanmei's body slowly to the abandoned Templar camp. While Griffin lets Yanmei's body rest inside the shipping container, Natalya begins to blame herself. However, Griffin tells her that this is Isaiah's fault and they must stop him. Before they could plan, another helicopter comes from above.
While Griffin rushes to cover, Grace notices that it is Victoria. Rushing to meet her, Grace and David follow after while Monroe, Owen, and Javier wait first. Before meeting Victoria, Natalya tells her that Isaiah has taken the prong and gone rogue. Victoria admits that he left a manifesto and claims to have both prongs now. Javier tells her that if he retrieves the third one, he will become the next Alexander the Great. Victoria asks if he is Javier, to which he admits. Javier also states that Assassins are here, which leads Victoria's men to ready their guns.
Natalya yells at them and states that Isaiah is the bigger issue and he plans to take out both sides for his plans. Victoria tells her men to stand down while calling out aloud for a ceasefire. After some time, Griffin introduces himself and states that she is the only Templar that he would ever trust. Victoria explains that she is a Templar now but agrees on the sentiment. While the kids realize that Victoria has been hiding parts of herself, Victoria tells them that the next prong is surely in Scandinavia.
Chapter Twenty-Nine[edit | edit source]
In his simulation, Sean relives the battles Styrbjörn has won with the Jomsvikings and Palnatoke as his second-in-command over the Danish coasts. Making his way towards Harald, Styrbjörn states that all he wants is his army for Sweden while Gyrid admits that she wants his kingdom. Thus, he will rule over Sweden and she will rule Denmark. Meanwhile, Anaya checks up on Sean, who admits that he is quite alright. While Styrbjörn and his army arrive at the harbor, they are met by a resigned Harald and his children. Soon, Sean notices the prong is held at Harald's belt, much to Sean's excitement.
Calling out for Anaya, Sean is met with silence. After some time, Isaiah responds and Sean says that he has found the third prong. Taking Sean out of the Animus, Isaiah is thrilled while Sean states that they need to stay with Styrbjörn to find out what happens to the prong. Agreeing, Isaiah orders Cole to take the processor. Sean asks if he is leaving again. Isaiah states that he is and that Sean is coming with him.
