The Song military was the military of Imperial China during the Song dynasty.

History[edit | edit source]

In 1259, the Song military faced off an Mongolian invasion, which led to the Mongols to assail Diaoyu Castle. Within the military, the Chinese Brotherhood of Assassins aided the Song soldiers in defending their country from the invaders. Within the military, an Assassin held the position of commander among the infantrymen. However, the commander fell to Mongolian officer Bayan, who was part of a failed ambush.[1]

The failed ambush also led to the death of Mongolian general Wang Dechen, which led to a stalemate.[1] Within the stalemate, the military sent out spies through the Feiyan Cave to gather intel and engage any Mongolian soldier.[2] However, the fallen commander's daughter and Assassin apprentice Zhang Zhi used the cave's passage and took it upon herself to find and assassinate Möngke Khan. Although successful,[3] she was found by Bayan, who fought her and inflicted a hefty wound on her knee.[2]

Yet, the Song military did not withstand the Mongolian army's invasion despite Möngke Khan's death and the country fell to the Mongols in 1279.[4]
