Moose (Alces alces) are the largest type of deer from the Cervidae family. They are known for their very large antlers.
Moose can be found in North America, Asia and Europe. Even though they are very large, these solitairy animals find natural predators in bears and wolves. Their diet consists of many types of plants, berries, and shoots and bark of trees.
History[edit | edit source]
During the 9th Century, Viking shieldmaiden Eivor Varinsdottir encountered moose whilst roaming the wilds of Vinland when she went there in search of Gorm Kjotvesson. When approached by possible threats, the moose's first instinct was to flee.[1]
One very large specimen lived northwest of Teiotenontatase:ke, named O Yan Do' Ne by the local Iroquois people. When Eivor encountered the moose, she defeated it in battle.[1]
