History
Isu Era
Apple of Eden #5 was one of the numerous artifacts created by the Isu to control the minds of their slave race, the humans. When the Isu discovered an incoming solar flare that would scorch the Earth, Jupiter, Juno, and Minerva started their research into possible solutions for the flare in the Grand Temple.[2]
The trio discovered that when enough humans sat in thrall of an Apple of Eden and were told to believe, their imaginations became a reality. The Isu sent one Apple of Eden into the sky in hopes that they could will the threat away, by uttering the sentence "Make us safe." The first Apple of Eden was never properly placed, and the artifact's beam could not be placed to enthrall the world. They then sent a dozen of them into the sky, but none of the artifacts' direction could be controlled.[2]
The fifth Apple was among the artifacts sent into space and ended up crashing on the Moon's surface, where it remained for millennia.[3]
Modern times
The Templars discovered the Apple's whereabouts in the 20th century.[3] In 1962, the United States' President John F. Kennedy proposed a joint venture to the Moon with the Soviet Union.[4] This made Kennedy a target of the Templars, who employed their sleeper agent Lee Harvey Oswald to assassinate him,[5] though their plan went awry when a group of extremist Assassins hijacked it.[6] Kennedy was succeeded by his Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson, who was secretly a Templar.[3]
Under Johnson's Presidency, the Templar-controlled NASA started the Apollo program to reach the Moon's surface. The crew of NASA's Apollo 11 recovered the Apple of Eden on 20 July 1969, with Johnson's fellow Templar Buzz Aldrin delivering the artifact into the Order's hands.[3]
