The Cave of Gold was a cave that housed an Isu vault pedestal and an Apple of Eden, located in the northern part of Scotland's Isle of Skye.

History

In the late 9th century, the Viking Eivor Varinsdottir of the Raven Clan and the mercenary Kassandra discovered the cave during their investigation of a "curse" afflicting the Isle of Skye's population, which they deduced to be caused by a Piece of Eden. As they entered the cave, they were attacked by deranged villagers and, after defeating them, Eivor confronted Kassandra, who admitted that her presence might have activated the Piece of Eden. In response, Eivor dissolved their partnership and decided to find the five shards needed to access the Isu vault alone.^[1]

After collecting all the triangular shards,^[2] Eivor placed them within the pedestal inside the Cave of Gold, revealing the hidden entrance to the Isu vault. Entering the sanctum, she discovered another closed doorway along with more cursed villagers. While fighting them, an ambusher snuck behind her and threw a spear at her head, which was deflected by a newly-arrived Kassandra. Together, the two warriors then defeated the villagers and made their way past the doorway and deeper into the cave.^[3]

Illusions appeared before Eivor and Kassandra, based on the latter's past in Classical Greece, such as shields and weapons used by Sparta and Athens, a mask of the Cult of Kosmos, and Chara. The last apparition caused Kassandra to stop as she became overwhelmed with emotion and mourned the death of her old friend Phoibe. Meanwhile, Eivor spotted the cave's treasure, an Apple of Eden, situated atop a pedestal. As she grabbed it, she was overwhelmed by its power and shouted for Kassandra's help. Together, Eivor and Kassandra deactivated the Apple and ended the nightmares plaguing the island.^[3]
