He who increaseth knowledge, increaseth sorrow.

This article contains spoilers, meaning it has information and facts concerning Assassin's Creed: Forgotten Temple. If you do not want to know about these events, it is recommended to read on with caution, or not at all.

This template should be removed from the article 24 September 2025.

I wanted to ask you something. Which is... what's your name?
This article title is conjecture. Although the article subject is canon, no official name for it has been given.
"As for the third and final artifact that we'll find in the forgotten temple... it serves to spread the other two artifacts's immense power far and wide. Its reach could stretch across an entire continent... perhaps even to the ends of Earth."
―Edward Kenway on the Piece of Eden's powers, 1725.[src]-[m]

The lotus disk is a Piece of Eden created by the Isu alongside two other artifacts: the crescent amulet and the lantern. Designed to spread the other two Pieces' power, it functions as a transmission device, capable of sending signals across large distances.

For centuries, the disk was housed within an Isu temple in the former Khmer city of Angkor. In 1725, the artifact and its two sister Pieces of Eden became the targets of various factions seeking to use their powers for their own ends. All three relics would eventually be retrieved by the Zhang Wei Union, an organization founded by the British Assassin Edward Kenway, who subsequently separated and hid them to keep them safe.

Shimazu Saito, one of the Union's founding members, brought the disk with her back to Japan, where she would ultimately be buried with it. In 2023, Abstergo Industries discovered the artifact's location and recovered it from Saito's grave, intending to use it and its sister Pieces of Eden to bring about their vision of a New World Order.

Functionality

While its powers were more limited than both the crescent amulet's and the lantern's, the lotus disk nonetheless served as an essential component of the set, as it was what allowed the other two Pieces of Eden's powers to be spread across large distances.[2]

It was believed that the disk's transmission capabilities could stretch across a continent, or perhaps even the entire world. This made it a potentially deadly tool in the hands of individuals who wished to assert their will over humanity, as they could easily use the combined power of the three Pieces of Eden to enslave the human race.[2]

History

Early history

The disk was created at some point during the Isu Era alongside its two sister Pieces of Eden, forming a set.[3] After the Great Catastrophe in 75,000 BCE, which wiped out the Isu civilization,[1] knowledge of the set, its location, and its powers was lost.[3]

18th century

By the early 18th century, the disk had come to be housed in an Isu temple in the Khmer Empire's former capital city of Angkor.[2] At some point during his travels, the Dutch navigator Hendrik discovered this "forgotten temple" and found the disk atop a tower facing the Sun.[4] Unable to retrieve it, he wrote down clues regarding its location in his sea log, intending to return to the ruins at a later date.[5] However, he would never get the chance to do so before his untimely death in February 1725.[4]

That same year, the British Assassin Edward Kenway and the members of his Zhang Wei Union began a search for the three Pieces of Eden in Southeast Asia, seeking to keep them out of the wrong hands. After coming into contact with the crescent amulet, Edward began to experience visions of the past and the future, which informed him of the other two artifacts' whereabouts. Choosing to focus on the lantern first, Edward and his companions sailed to Burma to retrieve it, whereupon they planned to travel to Angkor to find the disk.[2]

Meanwhile, Xiao Han, the Mentor of the Chinese Assassins, and his ally Lee Huiyin also discovered the artifacts' location after acquiring Hendrik's sea log.[6] Upon stealing the amulet from Edward,[7] they organized an expedition into the jungles of Indochina, seeking to retrieve the lotus disk from Angkor's temple.[2]

Modern times

"Well, I guess some things you really can take with you to the grave. Is this why Saito was buried instead of cremated? This is quite the secret the Shimazu clan's been keeping from the Templars all this time."
―A Templar, following Abstergo's retrieval of the disk, 2023.[src]-[m]

The disk would eventually be retrieved by the Zhang Wei Union, who safeguarded it until Shimazu Saito's death sometime in the 18th century. Following her passing, Saito was buried in her home country of Japan and the Piece of Eden was hidden within her grave to keep it safe.[8]

In 2023, Abstergo Industries discovered the disk's location through the genetic memories of Saito's descendant Shimazu Sei, who was forcefully used as an Animus test subject following her defection from the Templar Order.[8] Members of Abstergo's Sigma Team were subsequently sent to recover the artifact, and the operatives exhumed Saito's coffin to acquire the Piece of Eden.[9]

With the Templars already in possession of the crescent amulet, they resolved to build a replacement device for the missing final artifact and find the Forgotten Temple so they could unlock the Pieces of Eden's full potential and create their New World Order. However, their efforts were opposed by an alliance between the Zhawang Corporation, the Assassins, and DedSec.[9] After Noa Kim saved Sei from Abstergo's captivity, he used the Brahman 3.0, an Animus model developed by the Corporation, to relive Edward Kenway's memories and track down the Forgotten Temple before Abstergo.[10]
