The California Gold Rush (1848 – 1855) was a period of history in the United States that saw many gold prospectors journey to California. It was marred by violence, including genocide perpetrated on the indigenous peoples of the Great Basin Desert.
History
John Sutter owned the mill where gold was first struck, and treated the Maidu people appallingly. In 1852, while traveling through the Great Basin in his carriage, he was robbed by an unnamed female Assassin, who wanted to take the stolen gold back to the Maidu.[1]
