  • Barnabas: If I have not given up reading your manuscript on the dirt varieties in Thessaly, then you're not giving up on me!

Kassandra tried to hide from Barnabas and Herodotos but fell over a small table and dropped her wine cup, giving her position away.

  • Barnabas: Ah-ha! On the rooftop!
  • Kassandra: Maláka!
  • Herodotos: Kassandra! What are you doing up there?
  • Kassandra: What does it look like? I'm on vacation!
  • Barnabas: Ah, you've been in the sun too long—you're more bronzed than an urn! Come down here!

Kassandra waved her hand dismissively.

  • Kassandra: Aah, nonsense! I'm taking in the air. Much needed rest. Okay, bye!

Kassandra sat back down with her back against the balcony.

  • Barnabas: What if I told you, uh... a mythical treasure awaits! Ah? What say you then?

Kassandra laughed lightly.

  • Kassandra: Nothing I haven't heard before.
  • Barnabas: An expert like you will find it in no time. The Adrestia needs a tune-up, and I could use the drachmae. Help an old friend!

Barnabas nudged Herodotos to help him convince Kassandra.

  • Herodotos: Right. For old time's sake?

Herodotos laughed.

  • Kassandra: All right, all right, just... just keep your chitons on.

Kassnadra got up and jumped off the roof, but stumbled on her landing. Herodotos leaned to Barnabas.

  • Herodotos: Not as quick on her feet anymore, is she?

The two laughed and approached Kassandra. The three smiled and greeted each other.

  • Kassandra: What's all this about treasure?
  • Barnabas: Only the most exciting thing to happen to you in ages!
  • Kassandra: I've had enough excitement for a lifetime.
  • Herodotos: This was the last place we thought to look for you on Korfu. What have you been doing all on your own?
  • Kassandra: Nothing, dear Herodotos. And I've had the time of my life!

Barnabas and Herodotos looked at each other, concerned over Kassandra's apparent change from her usual mood. Kassandra grabbed another cup and walked toward a balcony overlooking a cliffside.

  • Kassandra: Napping in the day, star-gazing at night, and as much wine as I can swallow.
  • Herodotos: That's quite unlike you.
  • Kassandra: The old Kassandra, maybe. But the new Kassandra has never felt better.

The three arrived on the balcony, which had a carpets laid out beside a table set with another amphorae of wine. Kassandra stared at the amphorae while Barnabas voiced his shock at her change in life plans.

  • Barnabas: Not retiring, are you?

  • Kassandra: If only that were an option. No more trouble, no more fighting? I wonder if that's even possible.

  • Kassandra: As long as there's trouble in this world, I don't see that happening.

  • Barnabas: I've never seen you with a face so sour. Come on now, everybody loves treasure!
  • Kassandra: I'm not really in the mood. I'm a little preoccupied.
  • Herodotos: Not in the mood? Now you're definitely not acting like yourself.
  • Kassandra: And what's so about that? I'm fine. Really! I just... needed to be alone for a while. To think about what's become of my life and get away from everyone. No offense.
  • Barnabas: None taken.
  • Herodotos: It's true, the burdens you've carried have been heavy.
  • Barnabas: If anyone can shoulder them, it's Kassandra. You just need a little distraction from the weight. Say you'll do it! Come on the hunt!

Kassandra stared off distantly, lost in thought.

  • Barnabas: For the Adrestia. For me?

Unable to turn down her friends' personal request, Kassandra relented.

  • Kassandra: Alright, we'll hunt for treasure. To put some drachmae in your pocket.
  • Barnabas: That's our misthios!

He laughed in his excitement.

  • Barnabas: Oh, the loot will be enough for a whole new ship!

He cleared his throat, attempting to gain a more serious tone.

  • Barnabas: Legends say there are delicate linens woven by goddesses! Ancient scrolls! One-of-a-kind wares from a far-off land.

Herodotos shook his head and laughed as Barnabas' exuberance.

  • Herodotos: Let's not get too carried away, Barnabas.
  • Barnabas: Oh, right. I won't spoil any surprises.

He turned back to Kassandra.

  • Barnabas: You'll find clues around the island that will lead to treasures beyond imagination.
  • Kassandra: If it's so legendary, I'm surprised no one's found it yet.

Barnabas spread his arms wide.

  • Barnabas: They've tried for hundreds of years!

He stopped on seeing Herodotos' pointed stare.

  • Barnabas: Well, less than that. But no one has discovered it—not until we do today!

Kassandra sighed.

  • Kassandra: We'll see. The only thing this island has a lot of is sand, and pirates.

Kassandra turned around and walked back into the house.

  • Kassandra: I'll go get my gear.

Kassandra made her way to her hideout in a nearby hidden cave and entered it.

  • Kassandra: With all my old things here, I was starting to forget about them. All the people I've met... it's like they follow me around. Physically, and in my head.

Kassandra saw some sculptures.

  • Kassandra: This sculptor had nothing on Phidias.

She went to a rack of spears.

  • Kassandra: I can't look at a spear without thinking of Brasidas.

She saw an old letter from Alkibiades.

Dear sweet misthios, where have you gone? It's just not the same without you here. I hope you haven't gone forever. I want you to come back... and come often! Surely you understand me, you've always had a way with me, you know. Yours, Alkibiades
  • Kassandra: I haven't looked at this letter since Alkibiades sent it to me. Months ago.

Kassandra saw a pile of Spartan gear.

  • Kassandra: If you want the opposite of a vacation, try Sparta.

She finally came across her old gear.

  • Kassandra: I was hoping to not need these for a while.

Kassandra put on the armor, grunting.

  • Kassandra: Time to get back into shape.

Kassandra practiced with her weapons again, destroying practice dummies.

  • Kassandra: That should do it. Let's see about these clues.

Kassandra left her hideout and made her way back to Barnabas, who was laying down eating.

  • Barnabas: The very intriguing, riveting clues are waiting for you!
  • Herodotos: Barnabas, careful.
  • Barnabas: What? Too much?

Kassandra was given a hint, which directed her to Lake Katarrakton. There, she found her first clue and read it.

The Captain and the Cyclops

Tortured by a cyclops and almost drowned in a pot! This great captain befriended you, pledged his life, his ship, and his crew. Travel northwest, in the village where I rest. You will find me in the jar, and in the goat not!
  • Kassandra: Wait... who wrote this? Messy like it was scrawled on a bobbing ship. Just like the hand of Barnabas. Legendary treasure, eh? Seems more like Barnabas and Herodotos thought I was on vacation too long. Those two.

Kassandra chuckled.

  • Kassandra: All right, boys. Where do you want me to go next?

Kassandra went to the nearby Alieos Village and found a pot filled with water with a goat nearby. She then saw a group of people dressed like pirates.

  • Kassandra: Actors playing pirates? Nice touch. Those two outdid themselves.

Kassandra approached one of the pirates.

  • Pirate 1: Leave this place, misthios.

Kassandra then found the solution to the clue, and a pirate approached her.

  • Pirate 2: Eh! What did you find there, misthios?

The pirates attacked Kassandra, who fought back.

  • Kassandra: Let's make this a good fight for our audience, shall we?

Kassandra quickly knocked all the pirates to their knees.

  • Kassandra: Not a bad performance. Have you all acted before?

She then held out her hand to a pirate and helped him up. As the other pirates got up, she began applauding their "performance". Just then, one pirate grabbed a rock and hit Kassandra in the back of the head with it. Kassandra fell forward, and another pirate grabbed a wooden stick, and hit her, knocking her out. Kassandra woke up sometime later in a cell. One of the pirates approached her.

  • Jailer: We know you know.
  • Kassandra: What do I know?
  • Jailer: The treasure. Don't lie. You were sniffing around.
  • Kassandra: Yes, that's what people do when they're on treasure hunts.
  • Jailer: We'll find it first. Mark my words.
  • Kassandra: I'm guessing that wasn't a play fight.
  • Jailer: There's no play when those kinds of riches are at stake.
  • Kassandra: But those clues were written by Herodotos and Barnabas. Weren't they?
  • Jailer: What clues?
  • Kassandra: What?
  • Jailer: What? How do you know about the letter of the treasure hunter?
  • Kassandra: Wait. Let's start over. There's very real treasure on Korfu Island, isn't there?
  • Jailer: Don't matter—not when you'll never see it again. You'll be locked in there for the rest of your miserable days.

The pirate walked away.

  • Kassandra: We'll see about that. Now, where's my gear...

Kassandra easily broke out of the cell, took out the pirates, and recovered her gear. She found a letter on the jailer's body.

Jailer's notes

No one can read the stupid thing, but the letter was written by the hunter himself. Keep it in the settlement until it's deciphered, and keep your noses in the sand until the treasure's found!
  • Kassandra: Hm... might be worth checking out this settlement for the letter he mentioned.

Kassandra made her way to the Lestikos Settlement which was surrounded by pirates. After dispatching of them, she found an old letter in a chest.

  • Kassandra: Here we are. It's in Greek, but also... not? Hope Herodotos can read this.

Kassandra returned to Herodotos and Barnabas on top of a nearby hill and approached them.

  • Barnabas: You're alive!
  • Kassandra: I suppose now you'll tell me your treasure hunt wasn't real?
  • Herodotos: Barnabas thought you needed some more adventure in your life.
  • Barnabas: I know you—you're just like me! You live to see the next port, so to speak. I thought it'd do you some good to feel... needed again.

  • Kassandra: You two must have really missed me to go to all this trouble.
  • Barnabas: Of course we did! We all love wine, but, drinking all on your lonesome? You can't blame us for being a little worried.

  • Kassandra: Good intention or not, warn me when you're going to get me in trouble next time. I'm on Korfu to avoid all... that.
  • Barnabas: Heh, right.

  • Herodotos: A few of our clues still remain on the island if you want to find them - to humor us.
  • Barnabas: We put a lot of work into those! Hope a pirate doesn't find them first.
  • Kassandra: Speaking of clues—real clues—I found this letter.

Kassandra handed the old letter to Herodotos, who read it.

  • Herodotos: Ah, this is written in an ancient Dorian dialect. I can read parts, but it's not spoken, and most of its stories have died with its speakers. Remarkable!
  • Kassandra: What does it mean?
  • Herodotos: I don't exactly know. But it alludes to a story I heard once. It told of a sunken key in a temple off the coast of Korfu. Near a small island.
  • Barnabas: Ah-ha! Keys always unlock... something! Our hunt isn't over yet, thank the gods.
  • Kassandra: A sunken key? That doesn't narrow it down when you're surrounded by water.
  • Barnabas: You were a little reluctant at first, but now this is for real. The three of us will make history!
  • Kassandra: It's not exactly the break I had in mind. I came here to get away from everything, remember?
  • Barnabas: But...?
  • Kassandra: But we're involved now. Whether I like it or not.
  • Barnabas: That's the spirit! Where to?
  • Herodotos: I believe an old colleague of mine, a professor, lives on the island. He may be able to translate the letter's true meaning. I'll see what he knows in Korkyra Polis.
  • Kassandra: I'll meet you there. Barnabas, you take him. I'm sure the pirates will be looking for that letter.

Barnabas struck his chest saluting.

  • Barnabas: Affirmative! Then I'll head to the port. You wouldn't believe the triremes built out of Korfu!

Barnabas left.

  • Kassandra: So this is turning into Barnabas's vacation, is it?

Herodotos shrugged and took his leave. Kassandra shrugged.
