The Heir of Memories was a virtual representation of one of Kassandra's genetic memories, relived by Layla Hassan through the Portable Animus HR-8.5 and a memory of Layla herself.
Description
Kassandra met with the contact on the Island of Triton.
Description
After receving a cryptic note, Kassandra travelled to the island south of Chios. Arrving on the island, she saw a strange figure near the giant statue of Poseidon.
- Aletheia: Keeper. You came.
- Kassandra: That's... Am I seeing things?
Kassandra approached the figure.
- Aletheia: Keeper. You have come far to meet me here.
- Kassandra: Keeper? My name is Kassandra.
- Aletheia: Names changes, but this task is eternal. You are the Keeper, she who keeps the Great Seal closed and the Staff of Hermes Trismegistus safe.
- Kassandra: Tell me more about this task.
- Aletheia: To be entwined with mine. I've been called by many names, but you may call me Aletheia.
- Kassandra: Entwined... how?
- Aletheia: I can now present myself to you in a form that you recognize. You must deliver me to the Heir of Memories. Even now, she watches us. When I speak to you, I speak through you to her.
- Kassandra: So, I'm supposed to hold the Staff until this "Heir" person takes it from me. What will happen to me?
- Aletheia: What happens to all of us. Then she will open the Great Seal to Atlantis. It longs to be opened. Your task is to be the Keeper until that time. Pledge yourself.
(If players choose "Where is the Heir of Memories?")
- Kassandra: Where is this Heir?
- Aletheia: Now where, but when. She is yet to be, but even still, she is here watching us now.
(If players choose "I'll keep the staff for the Heir.)
- Kassandra: Fine. I pledge to keep the Staff until the Heir of Memories, whoever that is, is ready to take it.
The scene turned to the Gateway to the Lost City in Modern Day, where Layla Hassan is reliving Kassandra's memories. She spoke to her cell members through communications.
- Layla Hassan: All right. What did your diagnostic show you?
- Dr. Victoria Bibeau: Alannah's getting the results now.
- Kiyoshi Takakura: It will take us time to analyze. For now -
- Layla Hassan: Kiyoshi, you cut out. You there?
- Kiyoshi Takakura: Another bug? I was saying, for now, try to relax.
Layla heard a voice.
- Aletheia: Heir of Memories, the Great Seal awaits you.
- Layla Hassan: Victoria? Did you hear that?
- Dr. Victoria Bibeau: Nothing on our end. What did you hear?
- Layla Hassan: Before, there was radio static. Like we were being jammed. But just now, I heard a voice. The same one Kassandra heard in Atlantis.
- Dr. Victoria Bibeau: Might be the Bleeding Effect. Like Kiyoshi said, try to relax while Alannah works on the results of the diagnostic.
- Aletheia: Go to the Seal, Heir.
Layla explored the surroundings, travelling to a large gate in the right corner while carrying the Staff of Hermes Trismegistus. She placed the staff on the left of the gate. While she looked around, a voice echoed from the staff.
- Aletheia: The Keeper delivered me to you. Her pledge has been satisfied, and now I am entwined with you. Heir of Memories, this is the Great Seal to Atlantis. It has waited long to meet you.
Kassandra approached the staff.
- Layla Hassan: Victoria, Aletheia's voice is coming through the Staff, Victoria?
- Aletheia: The Interloper can't hear you now.
- Layla Hassan: You're scrambling my comms?
Focus Layla. You're not going crazy. I think.
Layla picked up the staff.
- Layla Hassan: That memory. If it wasn't an Animus malfunction, Kassandra was the Keeper, holding the Staff for... me? And somehow the Staff has been equipped for audio transmission, and it is connected to this Seal.
Layla looked at the symbols to her left.
- Layla Hassan: These symbols. It almost looks like a locking mechanism.
- Aletheia: Name these symbols in order, and at long last, the Seal will open to the Heir of Memories.
- Layla Hassan: OK, talking stick. But which symbols, and in what order? There must be some way to know.
- Aletheia: The Keeper kept this riddle, and more, in her mind.
- Layla Hassan: Altaïr II, I'm going back into the Animus. If the signals get through, and you can monitor my vitals, great. If not, well, you've earned one free "I told you so."
Layla went back into the Animus, relieving Kassandra's memories during her meeting with Aletheia.
- Aletheia: Keeper, our task is to guide the Heir of Memories to the symbols. A man called Theras knows of their whereabouts.
- Kassandra: Theras... The guy who helped get Phidias out of Athens? Is that why you've brought me back to this place?
- Aletheia: Here, the role of the Keeper bound itself to you, though you didn't know it yet. Now, to uncover the truth, we must go to Theras.
(If players choose "Who is the Heir of Memories?")
- Kassandra: How will I know this Heir of Memories when I see her?
- Aletheia: She will come to you. The end of your journey is n the Hall of Atlantis, where her true journey begins.
(If players choose "Who is the Keeper?")
- Kassandra: I don't understand who the "Keeper" is.
- Aletheia: The Keeper isn't a person, but a task. And it is yours. Pythagoras held the Staff to exploit its power. The Keeper's task is to restrain it and protect it from the hands of corruption until the Heir of Memories appears.
(If players choose "What are you?")
- Kassandra: Who, or what are you?
- Aletheia: I am Aletheia. Pythagoras called my people the Ones Who Came Before, but we are the Isu. Like you, I invited rebellion into the world, though there complications. I replicated my consciousness in the Staff of Hermes Trismegistus so that I speak with you and the Heir.
(If players choose "Where is Theras?")
- Kassandra: Theras could be anywhere now.
- Aletheia: What I know is that he was brought to Seriphos, but be careful. He went against his will.
(If players choose "I'll go find Theras.")
- Kassandra: I'm going to find Theras. I'm guess you're coming with me?
- Aletheia: Our tasks are the same.
Meanwhile, Layla who is relieving the memories received a message through her communications.
- Alannah Ryan: Layla, come in.
- Layla Hassan: Alannah, that you?
- Alannah Ryan: Two things. Something's been interrupting our commns, which explains why we lost your vitals. Kiyoshi is looking into it.
- Layla Hassan: I know this sounds crazy, but I think it's the Staff.
- Alannah Ryan: Nothing sounds crazy to me anymore. Still, I'd like to verify. In other news, your Animus is definitely bugging out. Victoria's yelling at her monitors in French, and frankly, I'm not sure what you're doing is safe.
- Dr. Victoria Bibeau: You call that yelling? Layla, The Altaïr II is moving into position. We're going to ask that you come up for air while we take a look at it.
- Layla Hassan: I can't do that, Vic. Kassandra's looking for Theras, who might know how to unlock the Great Seal to Atlantis.
- Dr. Victoria Bibeau: The what? Layla, I -
- Layla Hassan: Theras was a friend to Phidias. I'll let you know more as soon as I get answers. Layla out.
Outcome
Kassandra met with Aletheia on the Island of Triton, one of the many Isu, due to Kassandra possessing the Staff of Hermes Trismegistus. Kassandra pledged herself to become the gatekeeper and holding on to the staff for the Heir of Memories.
Back in 2018, Layla Hassan turned out to be the Heir of Memories and learned from Aletheia that she must figure out which symbols she mentioned and in what order to open the seal with the staff.
