DIA satellite accident
The Denver International Airport satellite accident, or DIA satellite accident, was the name given to an incident that took place at Denver International Airport in the early 21th century, that resulted in a large number of deaths. The precise time and nature of the incident is not clear, but it is known that one of Abstergo Industries's Pieces of Eden was destroyed in the accident.
Warren Vidic was responsible for preparing the final report into the incident: he indicated that the Abstergo project lead at Denver killed everyone there before the Abstergo clean-up crew arrived.[1] At least one civilian, believed to be a baggage handler, witnessed and escaped the accident; by 4th September 2012, this survivor was threatening to expose Abstergo's involvement in the incident.[2]
Aftermath
The loss of the Piece of Eden in the satellite incident meant Abstergo Industries could not launch their Eye-Abstergo satellite as scheduled. In order to find a replacement Piece of Eden, Abstergo were obliged to place Desmond Miles in an Animus in order to obtain the locations of other pieces.[1]
Trivia
- In Assassin's Creed, Lucy clearly states the Piece of Eden possessed by Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad was the same Piece that was destroyed during the DIA satellite accident.[3]
- The last four pieces of equipment that appear in Project Legacy Facebook game have QR codes instead of images. Three QR codes stand for Cochetopa, Sisnaajini and Dzit dit gaii, which are Navajo names for mountains in Colorado. These words are carved on the floor of Denver International Airport, which has served a basic for multiple conspiracy theories. The fourth QR code stands for DIA.[4]
- The phrase "…going Denver", which is used by employees of Abstergo Industries to describe when things have started to spiral out of control, is derived from the DIA satellite accident.[3]
