The Order of the Ancients, known collectively as The Snake, was a vast secretively-operative cabal organization operating without anyone among the common public knowing of even its own existence from throughout the lands of Ancient Egypt and in many locations residing beyond it including Iran and Iraq in the earlier of their Pre-Medieval-During-Ancient and Pre-Crusade-Ancient-And-Medieval Years whilst through them being known together collectively as Persia and also Rome whilst throughout its Roman Republic and Roman Empire years. As a vast shadowy organization of this described type, each of its members had sought to use objects long recognized by ordinary individuals and their likes to be known in stories including ones influencing myths and legends for being the relics of the ancient gods, all the whiule to promote peace and progress for mankind under their supervised rule.
During the late Ptolemaic dynasty of Egypt, they exploited the young Pharaoh Ptolemy XIII as their puppet, and ruled Egypt from the shadows. After Ptolemy's death, they began to support Julius Caesar. The Order of the Ancients would eventually evolve into the Order of the Knights Templar.
Though they desired peace for all of Humanity and fought against machinations whether of political or economic or any other type and kind set up by those of evil nature of any type, since they believed that threats to what they desired would always remain whilst the likes of and freedom and free will remained in existence and since there were some among their members who were known to be given the likes of and cruel reputations, etc., for various different reasons despite these very members themselves not being held in any kind of positive regard including of even highest types by those among this very organization's members who stayed true to the purposes behind this organization's foundations, they would come into conflict with same-desires-carrying individuals including ones part of an equally vast and secretively-operative shadowy and secretive organization called by names like The Hidden Ones, which in turn even included ones among its members who suffered tragedies due to the actions of some of the Ancients' Order's members among the ones not held in good regard by true-to-sought-out-desire-rooted-purposes members, ending up at conflict with some of the Ancients' Order's members who stuck to organizational-original-foundational purposes regardless of whether or not given the likes of and reputations for cruelty. These members of this organization each had also desired peace for all Humanity and fought against machinations whether of political or economic or any other type and kind set up by those of evil nature of any type, yet believed it could be achieved through free will and freedom yet believed it might have to take a gradual process of tolerance including tolerance based upon combined with mutual understanding, even if that process were to take thousands of years, unlike the ones among the Ancients' Order's members that stuck to their organization's purposes for original foundations among ones who - regardless of whether or not given cruel reputations for whatever reasons and despite that still being at least among some of the ones with the same desires - were classically insistent that Humanity was too prone to evil, corruption, the likes of these things, etc., for such peace to be existent through such means and instead sought to achieve it through control over ordinary and other populaces and believed that freedom, free will, the likes of those two and dissent and their likes all had to be eliminated, ensuring the birth of a New World Order, much like their organization, its "residential rites", its "residential rites' factions" and their members when it became called The Templar Order.
History
In 51 BCE, as the young Ptolemy XIII ascended to the throne as co-ruler of Egypt alongside his sister-wife Cleopatra. The Order quickly became the true power behind the throne and used all their powers to influence, through Ptolemy, the organization of Egyptian society and to push forward their own plans for the realm.
Discovering that the Queen was not as easy to handle as her brother, the Order instigated the expulsion of Cleopatra from Egypt in 49 BCE. They chose Ptolemy, knowing that Cleopatra was a much more cunning ruler and a better strategist than her younger brother, who was more interested in the superficiality of power and was easily swayed by them.
After he discovered their existence, the Medjay Bayek began a quest to thwart their plans for domination. As a result he later founded the Hidden Ones, a brotherhood which would eventually evolve into the Assassin Brotherhood and fight against the next iteration of the Order of the Ancients in the following millennia, the Templar Order.[1]
Overview and Ideology
Foundations and Memberships
The Order of the Ancients was founded by the Pharaoh Smenkhkare, around 1334 BCE, with the aim of identifying and exploiting ancient Isu technologies. Having discovered the Isu vault Eeyoo Sekedoo Aat, Smenkhkare eventually had his own tomb connected to the vault, in order to keep it hidden.
By the time Egypt was under the control of the Ptolemaic dynasty, over one thousand years later, the Order comprised of various men and women at the upper echelons of the ruling class; these individuals retained positions of power and, for the most part, were involved in political, religious, economic and military proceedings. Members of the Order of the Ancients symbolically wore masks when they met in congress - a visual display of their loyalties. Each key member of the Order was responsible for their own sphere of influence within Egyptian society and they were scattered all over Egypt, due to the antiquated constraints of communication and transport.[1]
Goals and Beliefs
- "I have served them and your beloved Egypt. And I'll be rewarded in the Afterlife. An eternity of drinking and whoring with my brothers."
- ―Lucius Septimius, explaining his beliefs to Aya.[src]
The Order of the Ancients, much like their future incarnation the Templars, were deistic in their faith, for they believe in the Afterlife. The Order of the Ancients also believed in the Father of Understanding.
The primary aim of the Order, at this time, was to bring back a strong dynastic power, equal to that of previous dynasties which had ruled during the glory days of Ancient Egypt, prior to the arrival of the Ptolemies. This was reinforced with the belief that the pre-existing system was much more founded on order, on the divine power of the Pharaohs. In this perspective, the Order were looking for means of control, be they political, religious, millitary or cultural, to regain what had been lost. In addition, they also had people in positions of knowledge who were looking for the secrets of the past, such as the Pieces of Eden.[1]
