The Battle of Sekigahara (関ヶ原の戦い) was a battle fought on 21 October 1600 between the Western Army loyal to Toyotomi Hideyori and the Eastern Army under Tokugawa Ieyasu.[1] The battle was the last conflict between the two armies, which began after the death of Toyotomi Hideyoshi at the hands of the Japanese Assassin Yamauchi Taka.[2]
The battle was a decisive victory for the Eastern Army, due in part to the support of the Assassins; Taka was present on the battlefield and also assassinated the Western Army's general Shima Sakon to ensure Tokugawa's victory.[3] This marked the start of the Tokugawa shogunate, which would rule Japan for nearly 270 years.[1]
