The Battle of Talas was a military engagement at the Talas River in Kyrgyzstan between the Arab Abbasid Caliphate supported by the Tibetan Empire and the Chinese Tang dynasty. The battle ended with a decisive Abbasid victory after the Karluk mercenaries who had enlisted with the Tang suddenly betrayed them on the fifth day, putting end to the Tang's westward expansion.[1]
