A Promise was a virtual representation of one of Yasuke's genetic memories, relived through the Animus EGO.

Description

Yasuke travels to Kameyama Castle to rescue Hosokawa Tama's younger brother Mitsuyoshi.

Dialogue

Yasuke reached the outskirts of the castle.

• 'Yasuke: Kameyama Castle. Built by Mitsuhide as a home and base. Now a prison to Mitsuhide's son.

Yasuke breached the castle from the west, killing the enemy guards along the way. After a short while, he soon reached the residences and saw signs of battle.

• Yasuke: Tama's brother was here recently.

Yasuke eliminated the guards in the vicinity.

• Yasuke: Mitsuyoshi should be held near the tenshu. Inside the living quarters.

He found a trail of blood leading into the residence and heard a voice.

• Mitsuyoshi's Servant: You... samurai. Here.

Yasuke entered a found a mortally wounded woman on the ground.

• Mitsuyoshi's Servant: They took him. The young lord. Locked him away. Beneath the tenshu. A key. Here. Stole it when I had the chance.
• Yasuke:' I will help him. You have done everything you can.

As the servant passed away, Yasuke headed to the tenshu and unlocked the gate to the room. Inside, he found the young lord waiting.

• Akechi Mitsuyoshi: You. Samurai. I have not seen you before.
• Yasuke: Lord Mitsuyoshi?

Mitsuyoshi looked at the sword in Yasuke's hand.

• Akechi Mitsuyoshi: If you're going to kill me, do it quickly. Better yet, hand me your wakizashi. I will show you how a warrior dies with dignity.

Yasuke kneeled down.

• Yasuke: My name is Yasuke. I was sent here by Lady Tama. She is expecting you at Atago Shrine.
• Akechi Mitsuyoshi: Aneue (big sister)?! Atago... no. One of the foreigners, Baltazar. He took my katana. I can't go to Atago with out it.
• Yasuke: Your aneue (big sister) has gone through much to keep you safe. If something were to happen to you, I do not know how I could face her.

Mitsuyoshi pondered for a moment before nodding and listening to Yasuke's words. The samurai got up.

• Yasuke: Come. Let us talk elsewhere.

Yasuke escorted the young lord out of the tenshu.

• Yasuke: Stay close, young lord. I will ensure no harm falls upon you.
• Akechi Mitsuyoshi: Why are you helping me anyway?
• Yasuke: I promised Lady Tama, my lord.
• Akechi Mitsuyoshi: Yes, I understand that. What I mean is, what do you get from helping us?
• Yasuke: A chance to do what is right.
• Akechi Mitsuyoshi: I... I see. I understand.

They reached an open courtyard filled with enemy guards.

• Akechi Mitsuyoshi: This place is dangerous. You go. I will wait here.

While Mitsuyoshi hides behind a hay stack, Yasuke went to eliminate the guards.

• Akechi Mitsuyoshi: Impressive work. We should go now.

They continued their way and reached the exit guarded once again.

• Akechi Mitsuyoshi: This place is dangerous. You go. I will wait here.

Yasuke once again cleared the area of the enemy.

• Akechi Mitsuyoshi: Impressive work. We should go now.

They exited the castle and reached a small shelter.

• Akechi Mitsuyoshi: That nanban fool. He is usually in the courtyard. No doubt showing off my katana.
• Yasuke: I will deliver your blade to Atago. Do you know the way?
• Akechi Mitsuyoshi: I have been there many times. With my father.
• Yasuke: Then go. Be careful, young lord.

Yasuke returned to the castle and headed to the courtyard, where he found a group of Portuguese soldiers led by Baltazar.

• Baltazar: Ha! You're a long way from home.
• Yasuke: That katana. It does not belong to you.
• Baltazar: Well it's in my hands, isn't it? You want it so badly? I'll give it to you.

After a tedious fight, Yasuke eliminated the soldiers and Baltazar, recovering Mitsuyoshi's katana.

• Yasuke: I told you. It does not belong to you. Now, to Atago Shrine.

Yasuke left the castle and headed to Atago Shrine. While exiting Kameyama, he overheard an elderly couple talking about Mitsuyoshi.

• Elderly Man: That boy... If I'm not mistaken, I would swear that was Lord Mitsuhide's eldest son.
• Elderly Woman: He certainly dressed and looked the part.

Yasuke continued and headed to the shrine. He found the young Mitsuyoshi waiting outside.

• Akechi Mitsuyoshi: Yasuke! Over here!
  My katana. Do you have it?
• Yasuke: I do. I will give it to you at the shrine. We can go up together.
• Akechi Mitsuyoshi: Okay. Let's go.

Yasuke accompanied Mitsuyoshi into the shrine.

• Akechi Mitsuyoshi: When Baltazar took my katana, I was so angry, I... cried in my room. I felt like I couldn't protect anything or anyone. Including my sister. Then I got mad at myself for acting like a small child. A child who will never be a warrior.
• Yasuke: To be a warrior, you must believe in something. You must open your heart to it. Be willing to lay your emotions bare. To feel nothing is to believe in nothing. Shedding tears is the mark of a warrior.
• Akechi Mitsuyoshi: I... Thank you, Yasuke.

Inside the shrine, they found Tama waiting.

• Hosokawa Tama: Yasuke? Mitsuyoshi!
• Akechi Mitsuyoshi: Aneue (big sister)! You kept us safe.
• Hosokawa Tama: I did what I had to, dear brother. And now, we are leaving this place.
• Akechi Mitsuyoshi: But what about that man? Caro? We can't just -
• Hosokawa Tama: It will be taken care of. Do you have father's katana?

Mitsuyoshi nodded his head.

• Hosokawa Tama: Then go. Quickly now. We ride out soon.

Mitsuyoshi went to receive his katana from Yasuke, and then went to the altar to make his prayers.

• Hosokawa Tama: Before each battle, my father would visit Atago with that katana and pray to the deities for protection. Now the katana belongs to my brother. It is up to him to decide what to do with it.
• Yasuke: Will you tell him?
• Hosokawa Tama: No. Mitsuyoshi will leave the blade here to rest. A proper parting with our father.

The two watched as Mitsuyoshi placed the sword on the altar and put his hands together to pray.

• Hosokawa Tama: There's been enough death around me lately. And I know what you're capable of.
  And I also know you are not like the others. You don't fight for your own glory.
• Yasuke: So, this is why you spared me?
• Hosokawa Tama: For a second... I thought about it. Pulling the trigger. Then I remembered how you looked at Caro. I mistook it for hatred at first. But then, I saw something else. Something that showed me who you really were. It was then I knew you weren't my enemy.
• Yasuke: You wish for Caro's demise as well.
• Hosokawa Tama: I prayed for his death daily. A corrupting influence on my father, my home, my family. I... hope to put this time behind me as well. To free myself from the whims of those who crave power.
• Yasuke: I am here because there is something I cannot leave behind. The sorrows of the past have caught up to me. In preparing to face them, I told myself I was willing to die.
• Hosokawa Tama: Do you still believe this?
• Yasuke: No. I do not wish to die for anything or anyone else. I wish to live for those I care about. When I see them again, it will be with the knowledge that I can protect them. No matter what lies ahead. Your brother reminds me of another boy. One very close to my heart.
• Hosokawa Tama: You will return to this boy safely. Your eyes told me.
• Yasuke: You said it was not hatred nor rage. What did you see?
• Hosokawa Tama: Purpose. Takeda Castle. You will find Caro there.

Yasuke thanked Tama for the knowledge and left the shrine.

Outcome

Yasuke helped Hosokawa Tama to rescue her brother Mitsuyoshi from the Templar's clutches. In return, Tama revealed the location of Nuno Caro to him.
