The Assault on Cyne Belle Castle was an assault in 874 undertook by Mercian troops loyal to [[thegn] Geadric against Cyne Belle Castle, controlled by Lady Eadwyn, the wife of the late ealdorman Theodric who allied with King Aelfred of Wessex.

Geadric was aided in the assault by a company consisting of Sigurd Styrbjornsson, Basim and Fulke, whose real intention was to recover a piece of relic in Eadwyn's possession that belonged to a race of precursor beings.[1]
