The American Revolution was a political upheaval during the last half of the 18th century, in which the Thirteen Colonies of North America wanted to obtain independence from Great Britain. This lead to the American Revolutionary War from 1775 to 1783.

After the French and Indian War, Britain had massive war debts. One solution was to directly tax the Thirteen Colonies. After a series of acts were passed and revoaked, protesters in Boston boarded ships from the British East India Company docked at Griffins Wharf and threw hundreds tea crates into the sea. This event became known as the Boston Tea Party, which is commonly accepted as the start of the Revolution.
