French Revolution
The French Revolution was a period of social and political upheaval in France from 1789 to 1799. It was caused by the extravagance of the aristocracy which gradually enraged the French masses, eventually sparking the revolution. The event saw the abolishment of the Ancien Régime and the French monarchy, and established principles of inalienable rights in the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen. After the abolishment of the Kingdom of France, the French Republic was founded, but this gave way to many upheavals and executions. Furthermore, the major powers of Europe felt threatened by the new republic and its revolutionary ideals, thus waging war on the new France. In the wake of the ensuing chaos, the First French Empire was founded by Napoleon Bonaparte,[1] who used an Apple of Eden to expand the lands of his new empire.[2]
