Adamant, known to the ancient Greeks, and later to Abstergo as pathorica,[1] was a type of nearly indestructible metal that could also be used as a source of energy. It had additional, unknown properties that have only been described as "amazing". It was notably used in large quantities by the First Civilization and served as the principle material in their Pieces of Eden.
History
5th century BCE
Some time after 465 BCE, once Amorges became a leader of the Order of the Ancients, he was awarded the Sword of Kings. A sword crafted from adamantine. During this time, members of the Persian Order possessed necklaces made from the metal.[2]
In around 422 BCE, the sword was broken in a battle between Amorges' former comrade Darius and the Spartan misthios Kassandra, and Amorges was killed. Kassandra claimed what remained of the sword and took it to an artisan smith near the Oikos of the Olympians in Phokis. The smith was one of the few people who knew what adamantine was and how to forge with it. After collecting the Ancients' necklaces from all members, Kassandra had enough adamantine to repair the sword.[2]
Simulation
In around 422 BCE, during her time within a simulation created by the Isu Aletheia, Kassandra encountered adamant in both its raw and processed form during her time in Atlantis. Elpis, the human lover of the Isu Atlas, tasked Kassandra to acquire raw adamant from the Adamant Metallon without being seen.[3] Using the raw adamant she constructed an Isu device which turned her into a hybrid. She had hoped that by doing so it would allow her to be seen by Atlas as an equal.[4]
Behind the scenes
Adamant's name is derived from the Greek word ἀδάμας and its genitive ἀδάμαντος (adamas, adamantos), often translated as 'indomitable, untameable'. Adamant and similar words, like "adamantium", are commonly used to refer to any especially hard substances.[5]
