A Torch of Hypnos

A Torch of Hypnos was a piece of Isu technology mainly used in and around military camps and outposts inside the simulation of Elysium.

Named after the god of sleep, Hypnos, these torches constituted a pillar with an Apple of Eden within its eye, which resided at the summit. The Apple was used to control the minds of Persephone's human subjects.[1]

When shot, the Torch gave off a damaging burst of energy, resulting in the destruction of the torch and damage to all individuals in the immediate area. It would also temporarily stun all nearby soldiers.[2]

During the Peloponnesian War, the Spartan misthios Kassandra encountered and destroyed numerous Torches of Hypnos during her travels in the simulation of Elysium.[2] The Torches were also utilized in the simulation of the Underworld, the underworld ruled by the Isu for which it was named, Hades,[3] and in the one of Atlantis by Poseidon's soldiers.[4]

Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]

Destroying a Torch of Hypnos near an inert Kolossus used to damage them while maintaining their deactivated status. However, with the release of Patch 1.3.0 for Assassin's Creed: Odyssey, this feature has been removed.[5]
