The Battle for Brest was fought on the Western Front during World War II. It was part of the Allies' operation to liberate Europe from Nazi Germany.
On 9 September 1944, members of the 2nd Infantry Division of the United States Armed Forces advanced on the city under heavy machine gun fire.[1]
In 2012, a photograph of US forces advancing on Brest was later acquired by the Assassin Clay Kaczmarek and hidden in the Animus for his successor, Desmond Miles to find. Desmond did so in September of that year.[2] The picture contained a hidden hexadecimal cipher that read "Antikythera mechanism, much older than 150 BCE." The picture was hidden with the Glyph puzzle titled "Infinite Knowledge".[1]
