The Trienio Liberal was a period of 3 years from 1820 to 1823 during which a liberal government ruled Spain. This period began after a military uprising ousted King Ferdinand VII in 1820, and ended in 1823 when French King Louis XVIII ordered the army to intervene and help reinstate Ferdinand's absolute power.[1]
