The earthquake was caused by the defense mechanism of a First Civilization Temple situated under the Feast of the Saints Cathedral, which was triggered by the then Assassin Shay Cormac, who went there under the order of Achilles Davenport, the Mentor of the Colonial Assassins, to retrieve the Piece of Eden in the temple.
