The Imagawa Mansion was the residence of the Imagawa clan, located in Mikawa Province, Japan.
History
By 1561, Imagawa Ujizane assumed power of his clan[1] after his father Imagawa Yoshimoto's downfall to Oda Nobunaga[2] and started to meet with the Italian Jesuit priest and Templar Paulino Massa. Over time, Massa made visits solely to Ujizane and soon recruited him into the Templar Order.[1] While seeking the Imperial Regalia, Massa promised Ujizane the responsibility to find the Regalia and place him into power.[3] However, Matsudaira Takechiyo, having been to the mansion recently, recalled Ujizane's meeting with Massa, much to his concern.[1]
Within the year, Ujizane, acting against Takechiyo, forcibly held Takechiyo's wife Sena and their kids Matsudaira Nobuyasu and Kamehime in his mansion to hold power over Takechiyo.[1] With his family taken hostage, Takechiyo enlisted his samurai and retainer Watanabe Moritsuna to find a worthy associate to assist him in the rescue plan. Ultimately, Moritsuna found Hattori Hanzō, whose family happened to serve Takechiyo, and brought him to Takechiyo. After a brief discussion, Hanzō agreed to help, as it coincided with his own mission from Master Assassin Alvaro Catarribera to find the Templars' base in Mikawa.[1]
