The Great Fire Of New York was an event that happened in New York City on September 21, 1776. The fire destroyed around a quarter of the buildings that populated New York.
New York, at the time, had a low population and many of the houses were deserted and empty, and the conditions were dry. So when the flames started they spread rapidly they tore through the poor sections of New York.
Nobody knows how the fire had started. Some conspired that it was by the Continental Army but there was no legitimate proof. George Washington had considered setting fire to the city as he retreated from it, but the Continental Congress had voted against it.[1]
Trivia
- It was intended for Connor be present in New York during the event, but it was too difficult to program civilians to react to the burning part of the city, so it was left out of the game.[2]
