The destruction of the Great Chain was an event that occurred in 1511 on Constantinople's Golden Horn.
After learning of the Janissary Captain Tarik Barleti's plan to ambush the Byzantine Templars in their home territory of Cappadocia, the Assassin Ezio Auditore da Firenze planned to continue Tarik's ploy by meeting his spies.
However, just as Ezio's ship, chartered by Suleiman I, was about to leave, the Ottoman Janissaries raised the Golden Horn's Great Chain, and vowed to keep it raised until the Assassin was caught. With Yusuf Tazim, Ezio dealt with the problem.
Setting Sail
- "The Janissaries have raised the chain across the mouth of the Haliç (Golden Horn) and ordered a full blockade until you are caught."

After leaving Topkapı Palace, Ezio made his way to the harbor of the Golden Horn, and on the way, he was greeted by Yusuf Tazim, who just heard of news of Ezio's departure. Yusuf informed him of the Great Chain being raised due to Tarik's murder, and won't be lowered until the murderer was caught.
To pass get to Cappadocia, Yusuf hands Ezio a bomb fifty times stronger than their regular explosives, for use in destroying the great chain. Ezio remarked that he knew what to do, which prompted Yusuf to leave him to handle it.
Before leaving, Ezio asked Yusuf to watch over Sofia Sartor, and protect her in case of any harm may come her way. After being assured by Yusuf that he will, Ezio left for the harbor.

Ezio boarded the ship, captained by Piri Reis, who was a fellow Assassin. The two would then leave the ruined shipyard for Cappadocia, and would arrive later at March of 1512.
