Scholars debate whether or not the Black Death also struck in India and China. In the latter case, it is occasionally noted as a factor behind the overthrow of Mongol rule. Either case, it is safer to just say "Asia" rather than the more restrictive "West Asia".

The Black Death was a bubonic plague pandemic which from 1346 to 1353, spanning across Asia, North Africa, and Europe. It is the most fatal pandemic in recorded human history, resulting in the deaths of 75–200 million people.[1]

History

In 1348, the plague visited the German city of Essen, wiping out nearly half the town's population. The Brothers of the Cross, a Templar Order front, traveled throughout the German countryside promising protection from the disease. The Assassin Lukas Zurburg suspected that they were after the Ankh, a Piece of Eden that purportedly could heal the sick and raise the dead and was said to have been lost somewhere in Central Europe. No explanation was ever recorded, but in 1350, the Brothers of the Cross suddenly disappeared, and Lukas was never seen again.[2]
