History
History
Spears were virtually ubiquitous throughout human history, adopted by various cultures around the world as a basic weapon. In 221 BCE, the Chinese Assassin Wei Yu slew the first Emperor of China, Qin Shi Huang, with a spear. Until the advent of firearms, spears saw regular service with militaries, such as that of the Saracens during their assault on the Assassin citadel of Masyaf in 1176.
The Isu created a number of spear-shaped Pieces of Eden, which would come to be wielded by various influential humans. The most famous example was the Spear of Leonidas, which became the signature weapon of the misthios Kassandra during the Peloponnesian War, granting her various superhuman abilities.

During the Renaissance, guards which employed pole weapons such as spears and halberds were commonly called Seekers for their tendency to use them to probe hiding spots. While the Italian Brotherhood of Assassins tended to forsake polearms for their impediment to freerunning, spears were favored by many prominent Templars of this era, with infamous examples being the Turkmen renegade Shahkulu, Odai Dunqas, and Samila Khadim.
Throughout much of human history, spears were a virtually ubiquitous weapon, adopted by various cultures around the world. In Ancient Greece, they were favored by the Spartan army, with most Spartan soldiers wielding them alongside shields. Spears were also a common weapon choice for the Ptolemaic and Roman armies in the 1st century BCE, while the Abbasid Caliphate and the Anglo-Saxon kingdoms of England during the Middle Ages had elite soldiers who specialized in spear combat.

Though spears, like most other melee weapons, were gradually phased out of military use by the development of firearms, during the time of the the French Revolution, they continued to see use among the Assassins such as those of the Parisian Brotherhood, was also present in the extremists, as a symbol of nailing the heads of the enemies as it happened during the French Revolution.
In 210 BCE, the youxia Wei Yu famously used a spear named after the late Jing Ke to assassinate Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor of China who was a puppet of the Order of the Ancients. The Jing Ke spear would later come to be stored in a secret vault alongside other Assassin relics and, in 756, was passed down to Li E, who used the weapon during his own assassinations of Wang Chengye and An Lushan.

ACO Spears Concept Art.jpg|Concept art from Origins
In Assassin's Creed: Official Game Guide, under the entry for the Crusaders, the Knights Hospitalier Soldier unit is depicted with a spear and a shield, but this unit never appears with this weapon in the actual game.
</gallery>

In Assassin's Creed II and Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, spears and halberds are classified as long weapons and cannot be purchased from any blacksmith shop. They can only be used by disarming them from Seekers or picking them up from the ground after killing a Seeker. Should the player character, Ezio Auditore da Firenze, break into a full sprint or freerun at any time, he will automatically drop the spear as he cannot equip a long weapon.

In Assassin's Creed II, the spear can be broken with a certain finishing move where Ezio snaps the spear over his knee and stabs his opponent twice at the same time with the now-broken spear halves. The spearpoint half will function as if it were a sword, while the handle half will function if it were a blunt weapon if they are picked up again. In Assassin's Creed II, the spear can also be broken in half by parrying a smash attack from a heavy weapon. In the non-canonical mobile version of Assassin's Creed II, a polearm called a "spear" by the game is part of the player's equipment, but it is technically a glaive, not a spear. Ezio uses it to assassinate the Templar Emilio Barbarigo.

Trivia
In Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, it is possible for some guards to use the spear, including militia and Borgia captains. If they are disarmed, and the closest weapon on the ground is a spear, they will pick that up provided that no Seeker is alive nearby to take it as well. Borgia captains who used the spear has the running and action animations of the Seekers. A spear

A spear is a basic polearm that consists of a shaft with a pointed head. This design ensures that it is primarily suited for thrusting.[1]

History[edit | edit source]

The Isu created a number of spear-shaped Pieces of Eden, which would come to be wielded by various influential humans. The most famous example was the Spear of Leonidas, which became the signature weapon of the misthios Kassandra during the Peloponnesian War, granting her various superhuman abilities.[2]

Throughout much of human history, spears were a virtually ubiquitous weapon, adopted by various cultures around the world. In Ancient Greece, they were favored by the Spartan army, with most Spartan soldiers wielding them alongside shields.[2] Spears were also a common weapon choice for the Ptolemaic and Roman armies in the 1st century BCE,[3] while the Abbasid Caliphate and the Anglo-Saxon kingdoms of England during the Middle Ages had elite soldiers who specialized in spear combat.[4][5]

In 210 BCE, the youxia Wei Yu famously used a spear named after the late Jing Ke to assassinate Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor of China who was a puppet of the Order of the Ancients.[6][7][8] The Jing Ke spear would later come to be stored in a secret vault alongside other Assassin relics and, in 756, was passed down to Li E, who used the weapon during his own assassinations of Wang Chengye and An Lushan.[9][10]

Until the advent of firearms, spears saw regular service with militaries, such as that of the Saracens during their assault on the Assassin citadel of Masyaf in 1176.[11] During the Renaissance, guards who employed pole weapons such as spears and halberds were commonly called Seekers for their tendency to use them to probe hiding spots.[6][12] While the Italian Assassins tended to forsake polearms for their impediment to freerunning, spears were favored by many prominent Templars of this era, with infamous examples being the Turkmen renegade Shahkulu, Odai Dunqas, and Samila Khadim.[13]

Though spears, like most other melee weapons, were gradually phased out of military use by the development of firearms, during the time of the French Revolution, they continued to see use among the Assassins, such as those of the Parisian Brotherhood. They were also present among the extremists, whose usage of spears to nail the heads of their enemies became a symbol of the Revolution.[1]

Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]

Spears concept art from Assassin's Creed: Origins

In Assassin's Creed: Official Game Guide, under the entry for the Crusaders, the Knights Hospitalier Soldier unit is depicted with a spear and a shield, but this unit never appears with this weapon in the actual game.

Additionally, they can put the spear or halberd in their empty sheaths, but the spear will appear to be broken.

Spears are absent from Assassin's Creed, but in Assassin's Creed: Revelations, some Templar knights who use the weapon are fought in the memory "The Mentor's Keeper", which chronologically takes place before Assassin's Creed.

In Assassin's Creed: Unity, the spear features as a weapon that can be purchased and fully equipped for the first time.
