Kleta

Kleta was a Greek woman of influence who lived in Boura, Achaia, during the Peloponnesian War. She was the mother of Phila, a hybrid who became the Magus of the Order of the Storm, an Order of the Ancients branch.

Biography

During the war, Kleta was rounded up with other Achaian civilians by Order of the Storm members and taken to the Teichos of Herakles. There, the group was interrogated by guards, who asked whether they had seen a "man with yellow eyes" or a "misthios with a bird", though Kleta snapped at a guard for posing what she thought were ridiculous questions. Before he could retaliate, the Eagle-Bearer Kassandra rescued the group and told them to flee. Despite the danger, Kleta later met with her rescuers at the foot of Mount Panachaikos and told them what she knew about the happenings in Achaia.

Not long after, Kleta again met with Kassandra in Boura, where she was sheltering refugees seeking to flee Achaia. After discussing the naval blockade set up by the Order, Kleta advised Kassandra to meet with the merchant Orontas, who might provide a solution to get past the blockade. Kleta later met with Kassandra and Orontas after avoiding the Order's patrols, and together they devised a plan to recover Orontas' confiscated ships from the dockmaster Ariston and use them to transport the refugees.

After Orontas left, Kleta confided in Kassandra about Phila, revealing her daughter's identity as "the Tempest" who led the Order in Achaia, and expressing remorse for their falling out years prior, which she believed had pushed Phila to join the Order. Once Kassandra and Orontas recovered the latter's ships, Kleta came to warn them about a group of Order soldiers coming their way, but was too late, as the soldiers arrived moments later. When the guards revealed their orders to arrest the misthios who had liberated the Tempest's prisoners, Orontas took the blame and left with the soldiers.

Later, Kleta met with Kassandra, Darius, and Natakas in Patrai to discuss their plan to sink the Tempest's fleet, which would allow the Achaian refugees to leave Greece. When Natakas mentioned that they would need a place to stay for the night, Kleta brought them to an abandoned home on a hill overlooking Dyme, which had belonged to one of her friends. The next day, Kleta and Kassandra went to oversee the refugee ships' departure until Barnabas alerted them to the arrival of the Tempest's fleet. Kassandra promptly boarded the Adrestia with Barnabas to deal with the attacking ships while Kleta stayed behind.

After Phila's flagship, the Skylla, was sunk, Kleta came to see and speak with her daughter, who had survived her ship's destruction and had washed ashore. Phila initially renounced her mother, claiming that the Order had saved her life and was her true family, but after Kleta and Kassandra both pleaded with her, she came to understand that the Order was simply using her. Nevertheless, their attempts to settle the conflict peacefully ended in failure, and Phila ultimately met her demise at Kassandra's blade.

Behind the scenes

While Kleta's daughter Phila was a "Tainted One", it is unknown if she inherited her Isu genes from her mother, father, or both of her parents, leaving it ambiguous whether Kleta herself was a Tainted One.

In the memory "Leviathan's Maw", if Kassandra encourages Kleta to try and reconcile with Phila, she will be killed by one of the Tempest's guards, prompting Phila to kill them in a frenzied rage before attacking Kassandra. If Kleta is instead told to stay away from Phila, she will survive and will witness her daughter be defeated by Kassandra and turn away from the Order before succumbing to her wounds.
