"Let bygones be bygones, my friend! We drink! Except for the mercenary."
―Ariston[src]-[m]

Ariston was a ship foreman who operated in Achaia, Greece, during the Peloponnesian War.

Biography[edit | edit source]

A ship foreman responsible for the Shipwreck Cove, Ariston had multiple bad experiences with mercenaries in the past, which resulted in a deep-seated dislike towards anyone practicing said profession,[1] believing them to be nothing but bloodthirsty beasts who used violence to solve everything.[2] He was also infamous for his love of wine, especially when drunk at the tavern of Pellene.[1]

In the 420s BCE, Ariston was keenly aware of the threat of the Tempest, the commander who had blockaded Achaia and sought to keep its people locked in. Afraid of incurring her wrath, he confiscated merchant ships at Pellene's docks and kept them beached as the Tempest had instructed.[2]

However, Ariston was later persuaded to release Orontas' ships by the Spartan misthios Kassandra and Orontas himself. Before they parted ways, Ariston warned them that the Tempest was not to be taken lightly, suggesting that all the ships that had crashed along the Scavenger's Coast were of her doing.[2]
