Calder was an Isu warlord and scientist who worked under the ruler of the realm Múspellsheimr, Surtr.

Biography[edit | edit source]

During Surtr's invasion of Svartálfaheimr, Calder worked on uncovering the secrets of an elven artifact, the Salakar. Finding suitable candidates for the Salakar to power the unfinished shield Tower built within the city of Eitri.

The main candidate of his tests were the Æsir Baldr. Capturing the boy with the aid of Loki, he and his mistress Sinmara tortured Baldr within the Prison Feigardr. Though impervious to all damage Calder was still able to hurt the boy with the use of mistletoe, cutting Baldr's skin without bleeding. Shoving it down his throat, poisoning and weakening him. Calder theorized that with enough time and resources he could attempt to replicate this invulnerability to bestow it upon others. Though eventually he absorbed Baldr's Hugr into the Salakar, preserving his mind within the device while leaving the body dead in his cell to find other minds to absorb.

Though during his trials he was found by a disguised Odin, in his quest to find Baldr. Aided by Eysa the two were able to catch Calder off guard. But the Muspel got away before Odin could recover the Salakar so the two ran after him. Eysa arriving first Calder was able to dispatch her, but was later defeated by the Æsir King. His Hugr being absorbed into the Salakar device.
