This article is about George II of Great Britain. For other uses, see King George.

George II (George Augustus; 1683 – 1760), sometimes referred to as of Hanover, was King of Great Britain and Ireland, and Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg from his ascendancy on 22 June 1727 until his death.[1]

Biography[edit | edit source]

In 1732, King George II offered to the First Prime Minister Robert Walpole the 10 Downing Street as a gift, but Walpole only accepted the offer on the condition that the house became the official residence of the Prime Minister.[2]

In 1748, King George aided Sweden's King Frederick I in financing his fleet. The Swedish Brotherhood of Assassins, who operated under the Swedish Levant Company, started speculating some Templar influences in King George's court.[3] This concern was also shared by the Spanish Brotherhood.[4]

He was succeeded by his grandson, George William Frederick.[1]
