Hildr was an Isu who became known as a Valkyrie within Norse Mythology. A part of Freyja's personal guard she led a failed revolution against the leader of Asgard Odin, which led to her imprisoning.[2]
Within Norse mythology, she had the ability to resurrect fallen warriors and as a psychopomp brought the dead to Valhalla, she also accompanied Odin in his Wild Hunt.[4]
Biography
Early life
Hildr was a Valkryie to the Isu Freyja. At one point, the two became lovers, but their love was cut short as the much older Aesir King Odin in a political move married Freyja in an attempt to stop the war between the two groups from continuing further. The plan succeeded, and the war ended between the groups.[5]
Uppcoming catastrophe
Hildr stayed close to Freyja as her Valkyrie, and as such, she learned of Odin's plan to save himself and eight other Isu from the devastation of the Great Catastrophe. Furious that Odin thought only of himself and his friends, leaving all other beings in Asgard to perish, Hildr rallied the Valkyries to attack. Betrayed by Freyja, however, her rebellion suffered defeat, and Odin let fall his merciless justice. Odin, furious and jealous, sentenced Hildr to a deep while sealing her sacred armor within his own vault and sealing the key to find it within Freyja's Cave.[2]
Distraught by her part in Hildr's fate, yet unable to defy Odin, Freyja arranged to deliver her own amulet as a token of a past love. Hildr wept bitter tears and sent the amulet off to her daughters in hopes it would one day be of use, swearing vengeance on Odin for his selfishness and for him taking her love away.[2] Hildr then languished for years within the cell, slowly starving to death.
Legacy
Hildr's vengeance was carried on, passing the Amulet of Freyja by her daughters to their daughters and so on for generations. By the 870s, the amulet had been passed down to Hildiran. Having found Odin's reincarnation in the Jarlskrona Eivor Varinsdottir, she tricked the viking into opening Freyja's Cave for her and later into finding Hildr's lost armor for her.
Personality and traits
Equipment and skills
Hildr as a Valkyrie was a skilled fighter and with the Amulet of Freyja. she could train within a mind realm as much as she wished.
Behind the scenes
- Hildr's hidden armor is a slightly modified version of the Helix pack Valkyrie Set, apparently having no visual connotations to Isu culture unlike other Isu armors within the game. If this is due to a sort of Fashion style within Isu culture or reuse of assets is unknown.
