Heimdall (Old Norse: Heimdallr) was an Isu belonging to a group known as the Æsir and was later remembered in Germanic and Norse mythology as possessing foreknowledge, keen eyesight and hearing. He used these talents to keep watch for invaders and the onset of Ragnarök while drinking fine mead in his dwelling Himinbjörg, located where the burning rainbow bridge Bifröst met the sky.
Biography
As the Great Catastrophe approached, Heimdall and the other eight Norse Isu uploaded their DNA data into Yggdrasil to be later redistributed into the human gene pool.[1] Millennia later in the 770s CE, Heimdall was successfully reincarnated as Rig Reidarasson.[2]
Mythology
Heimdall was the son of nine mothers.[3]
Legacy and influence
Heimdall had a totem named after him in the popular dice game Orlog, played during the 9th century. The piece "Heimdall's Watch" would heal the player depending on the amount of blocks performed. The Norse man Mundi, a resident of Ravensthorpe who often frequented the Barracks, possessed the piece, which he gave to the Viking shieldmaiden Eivor Varinsdottir of the Raven Clan after being defeated.[4]
