Parmys was the wife of Gyras, a naval engineer based in Patrai, Achaia during the 5th century BCE.

Biography[edit | edit source]

During the Peloponnesian War, Parmys' husband was employed by Phila, the Magus of the Order of the Storm, to work on a devastating weapon for her warship, the Skylla. In order to keep Parmys safe, Gyras was forced to comply and work under Phila, while under the supervision of Megakreon, a member of the Order of the Storm.[1]

At some point during Gyras' forced servitude of the Order, Parmys was present at a shipbuilding symposium in the city's amphitheater, giving a speech to the audience with her husband in attendance. Later however, her husband was killed by Megakreon and his guards, having discovered the engineer's treachery by providing the Spartan misthios Kassandra with the whereabouts of the weapon's blueprints. Nevertheless, Gyras' death was avenged when Kassandra arrived shortly thereafter and killed Megakreon and his guards with the help of Darius.[2]

Parmys, having witnessed this, approached Kassandra, informing her that Gyras had hidden code books throughout the shipyard and Achaia that would allow the misthios to install the weapon on her own ship. Kassandra promised to use the weapon to destroy the Order's fleet and avenge Gyras, then left Parmys to mourn her husband alone.[3]
