Maron was a helot who worked under Lanike's farm in Lakonia, Greece.

During the Peloponnesian War, Lanike's farm was plagued by a lack of growth of her crops, which she blamed on Maron and Teuta, a fellow helot as they did not worship the Greek gods. Maron, however, protested that it was likely to do with the soil or pests in the area.[1]

Nevertheless, Lanike sent the misthios Kassandra to meet Maron and Teuta to investigate. Maron directed her to the nearby river supplying the water to farm, claiming that it tasted like a rusty blade.[1]
