The Temple of Hephaistos, also called Hephaisteion and Theseion, was a Doric temple erected on Kolonos Agoraios hill in the northwestern area of Athens, Greece. Overlooking the agora, the temple was dedicated to Hephaistos, the Greek god of the forge and fire, and to Athena Ergane, the goddess of the crafts and weaving.

Due to the fact that the temple was heavily decorated by mythological events, especially those featuring Theseus, the mythical hero, the temple was also called Theseion.[1]

Beside the temple was located the Garden of Hephaistos, which was a popular meeting place.[2]

During the Peloponnesian War, the heavily-guarded temple was frequented by Hermippos, a member of the Eyes of Kosmos branch of the Cult of Kosmos. After uncovering his identity as a member of the Cult, the Spartan misthios Kassandra traveled to the temple and eliminated him.[3]
