Rayhan was the Mentor of the Hidden Ones based at Alamut in the late 9th century. Alongside Fuladh and Roshan, he was part of the council that governed over the brotherhood.
Biography
Mentor of the Alamut Brotherhood
Nothing was known of Rayhan's early life except that by the early 860s, he rose to the rank of Mentor and served as the Hidden Ones's entire network as an important strategist.[1] In this capacity, he also served as a member of Alamut's Council alongside Eagle-Master Fuladh and Master Assassin Roshan, making important decisions for the brotherhood and ensure the tenets were up-kept.[2] Another of his duties was to ensure the safeguarding of the Precusor vault and prevent their enemies, the Order of the Ancients, from opening and discovering its contents.[3]

In February 862, Rayhan received Aban, the emissary of the Tahirid governor who came to discuss with him on the events in Baghdad causing issues to the Hidden Ones alliance with the Tahirids. Aban told Rayhan that the powers behind the Caliphate were putting pressure on the Tahirids, for the Hidden Ones were supporting the Zanj Rebels led by Ali ibn Muhammad. Rayhan was warned that if the Hidden Ones persisted in aiding the rebellion, the Tahirids would not longer be able to provide protection from their enemies and his brotherhood would have to act fast.[4]
Aban's warnings came true that night when a group of mercenaries sent by the Order of the Ancients came to scout out the valley that Alamut was situated in. Thanks to efforts by watchman Nur and new initiate Basim Ibn Ishaq, the mercenaries were eliminated and the council were made aware of this intrusion. Together with the council and the two Hidden Ones, Rayhan announced the decision to return to Baghdad and seek the aid of Ali and the rebels, which Nur volunteered.[4]
Basim's betrayal
At some point during his 870s tenure, he sent a message to acolyte Hytham, who was staying at Eivor Varinsdottir's settlement of Ravensthorpe in England as he oversaw the bureau for his organization's latest chapter. In his letter, Rayhan recommended Hytham follow the example of his elder "brother" Basim if he wished to rise through the Order's ranks.[5]
In 877, following Basim's betrayal and apparent death, Rayhan sent another letter to Hytham expressing his dismay in Basim's actions and inviting Hytham to their next council session in two years' time housed by Mentor Fuladh in the newly constructed fortress of Aluh-Amut to give a full accounting, and to confer a new rank.[6]
Legacy
Following Roshan and Eivor Varinsdottir's meeting in England, the Viking shieldmaiden acquired one of his personal sets of armor.[7]
